It hurts when someone turns you down. Panthers just saving face. Get better as a team and players will sign with you point blank.

Nobody in their right mind thinks we are a better chance at winning over the Jets.

If the money is the same are you taking Charlotte NC over NY City?

If the money is the same are you taking Bryce Young over Aaron Rodgers?

I rest my case.

Not sure many players have been proud New York Jets in quite a while. You can live in NYC in the offseason if you love it so much. Their offseason buzz and happiness lasted 4 snaps? By the end of the year Rodgers went back to being a clown, alienating guys like Sauce with his antics and me-first attitude. If you read the reports about the Jets at the end of last year, I don't see why any player would want to be there. So yeah, it's perfectly reasonable for a player to not automatically choose the Jets over the Panthers-- or any other team.

Here's where I am, as an idiot with a keyboard.

1. Mike Williams has a perception of being hurt a lot.  Of being on the injury report weekly and playing through injuries.  While that's not out of the norm in the NFL, let's do some basic division and look at a few things versus how much he got.

Average games per season 12.6

Average receptions per game 3.5

Average yards per game 54.6

TDs per season 4.4

Williams contract from the jets:  1 year UPTO $15 million ($8.3m guaranteed, $6.7 incentives)

When you look at it that way, maybe he was asking too much, and the Jets overpaid.  Maybe the Panthers realized that he's too old, too injured, and not a great gamble.

Compare that to DJ Chark: 15 games, 2.3 receptions, 35 yards, 5 TDs on the year. These are the same averages for Williams' career.

Don't get it twisted, Mike Williams is light-years better than DJ Chark.  But is Mike Williams in 2024 three times better of an investment than a journeyman WR at this point?

And heck, it could also be the team didn't like his medicals.  I don't know.  Just an idiot with a keyboard!

agreed with all of that.

with williams, you are getting someone who has the reputation of being one of the toughest receivers out there. what you are getting is a guy who gets hurt a lot and who just isn't all that productive.

what the jets paid for is the reputation. they aren't really paying attention. they are just throwing everything in the fire hoping that they'll get cooking up something good for the year. what's most likely going to happen is they just get burned.

I still think if you want to really help Bryce out.....you don't give him a deep jump ball specialist.

You give him a quick slot WR, you give a him a rec RB, and a solid TE.   Add that to having Johnson on the outside.....and you are starting to actually try to help him succeed.

Jets aren't perfect, but they are still a better option than us.

That was my point.

It's a move you consider if you think you're a Mike Williams away from competing for a SB. We clearly aren't that.

jets being that is a hard sell as well. it's clear that's what they want to be and think they are, though.

i think they are done trying to build a long term team. they want just one year where they don't suck.  they have had only 1 winning season since their last playoff appearance in 2010.

of all the teams to be jealous of, they aren't one of them.

You do realize that not every player views the world the way you do, right?

These are ultimately business decisions. Otherwise, why on earth would anyone want to go to Green Bay, Wisconsin or Jacksonville, FL?

just imagine him riding that stationary bike through all of training camp. what a sight that would have been!

I personally was looking forward to the Clemson/U of SC battles between Mike Williams and Jaycee Horn.  They probably would have to live stream their Madden game vs each other because we would have never seen it play out on a field in camp.

    • The division is most certainly wide open. The Bucs are a problem but Baker Mayfield is and will remain his own worst enemy it's a matter of when not if he has a bad game or even a stretch of bad games. As far as the Panthers they have done an admirable job of trying to address needs as best they can without pulling a Scott Fitterer and getting desperate which has only made us worse off in the past. On the Bryce subject all anyone can really say at this point is we just have to wait and see. This is the year and despite what the Panthers may say publicly doubling down and going all in on WR is as good as any sign anyone should need that they expect Bryce Young to have a very productive and convincing season. The pieces are in place. They aren't perfect but nothing ever will be. Regardless there's honestly no excuse for this staff and this team not to be able to compete in this iteration of the NFC South. Also just want to say this because I can say the hyper defensive posts already being made in here and it's probably going to be a season with highs and lows again but hopefully more highs for sure. But just because there is dialogue about a position group or a player that challenges your preconceived notions or makes you uncomfortable does not make it "hate" or "anti" this player or that player. For some people who talk a lot about nuance you would think this wouldn't need to be stated but that's where we're at.
    • If I was a coach I would preach "Don't let the refs decide the game" because as soon as you let the NFL the chance to help their bottom dollar whether it be teams that make most money or gambling then they will screw the team that doesn't fit their bottom line......is it rigged? No but do they try and make certain narratives happen abso-freakin-lutley. As I stated in a previous thread NFL players are the ones that SHOULD have all guaranteed contracts but the boot lickers on this forum disagree and argue for the billionaires in this world who own these teams, sheep
    • I wont go quite so far as to say games are rigged.  You wouldnt have to work hard to convince me there was the occasional thumb on the scale but outright rigged? nah.   but collusion on the rest of the "business" of football, sure.  No one really believes that the only time the 32 owners act as one is during the negotiations of the CBA do they?
