Notebook: Dave Canales likes new-look offensive line

Rookie C to Bryce yikes. Remember when they let him lead protection meetings in training camp without even sitting and learning from Dalton for any time at all? Corbett is rusty too, I'm surprised they didn't look into free agency but maybe they're just holding off til after the draft

Conner WIlliams is still out there, he's a C/OG and started......12 games at center next to hunt last year. I don't know why he's still un-signed, must be a injury deal.........(just looked, yep he got a acl week 14). Still toss him a min type of deal, can not hurt even as a backup.

He's a former 3rd round steal that started on Dallas, whom draft as well as any team. Again ACL are not big deals these days, its silly to think Colbert can play C.

He should be ready for TC and or week 1. tfl-l-dolphins-giants-photos-26.thumb.webp.e233583e1a572448101acb4a620519dc.webp

I've read about how important it is to have a knowledgable C running the show with all of the communication, protections, pre-snap decision making, etc.

That being said, Frazier looks NFL ready day 1 and I really hope he is a Panther at 33 or 39. There's still good talent at the position that we can get at 65, but Frazier is a bonafide stud. His wrestling background and nastiness in the trenches intrigues me a lot.

Honestly, it's years past time. Investment in the O-line should be done in such a way to keep things moving efficiently from year to year. I could argue that it's the most important unit on the team. And, I know a lot of people may not like it---and I'm not suggesting that you don't draft high quality O-lineman, but you should always keep enough stores in free agency to acquire quality O-lineman because they have proven that they can be a successful pro.

Some may not agree, but you can get by with so-so offensive skill positions, QB excluded, but you can't fake a good O-line.

he would be a good option....if he can stay healthy, which i don't think anyone is sure he can. they are probably following his progress and i think they would love the fact that he isn't just good at the whole center thing, but he has worked along side hunt. wouldn't be bad to have him paired up again.

i just wouldn't want to have to rely on him. he might be an after draft guy if we don't get one there that looks like he could start.

    • Didn't  see this posted (since 2023) but since folks have been posting that you can't judge a draft class for three years (a ridiculous take), I thought I'd post this to see what people thought about the 2023 draft. Unfortunately this may not be the most interesting class to do this with but I do quite like retrospective draft grades. Would appreciate other's takes on this (and other recent) draft classes.   1(1) - Bryce Young QB: I am a bigger Bryce Young apologist than most (maybe all). I like the kid. But there is no way around it: This was a terrible pick. If he had been picked in the 4th or even the 3rd round I would feel pretty good about it. But this was the first overall pick that we gave up two firsts, our best offensive player to get.  GRADE: C -    2(39) - Jonathan Mingo WR: not much to say here here. He was here for two years. His yards per catch are on par with Bryce's yards per pass. Rough stuff. To date he has still never scored a touchdown in the NFL GRADE: F   3(80) - DJ Johnson OLB: a pick I hated as soon as it happened and an example of why the premise of this thread is honestly dumb. This was a bad pick when it happened. Most people knew it.  Then came training camp and he did not look good. Then came the preseason which confirmed what we saw in TC. Then came the season which confirmed what we saw in preseason. To date, he has half a sack in his career. GRADE: F 4 (114) Chandlers Zavala G: Honestly the best pick of this draft which really speaks to how awful this draft is. Other than Bryce, the only pick still on the team. He is mostly average or below average depth which in round 4 is not terrible. But he had a pff score of 43.5 and though I think people have unrealistic expectations for draft picks, I still would want a little more from a fourth round pick GRADE: C+   5 (145) - Jammie Robinson S: I liked the pick when it happened but ended up being a disappointment. He logged 1 tackle with the falcons last year and not enough snaps to get a grade on PFF.  GRADE: F OVERALL DRAFT GRADE: F
