Making an assumption based on the idea of having a new coach.

id expect 5 or 6 changes in top 12 and one pairing on defense being different and a new goalie if rod isn’t back.

if he is, probably keep as much as possible from this team as they can.

I'm on board with a new coach..... I just think if you make that assumption you are likely to be disappointed.

For those asking who a new head coach would be, if they aren’t going with a guy who already has a Stanley cup ring, what’s the point? So it’s Craig Berube or Joel Quennville. I think you stick with Rod with a retooled roster next season. If it’s the same result it’s time for a fresh look.

The problem is Rod's system has proven not to work in the playoffs and he has proven that he is overly loyal to veterans and won't make adjustments to his system...

He's the type of coach that will succeed in the regular season (like he has), but likely won't in the playoffs unless his players Play above their level.

Agreed that there aren't many options that I know of available, but I'd rather do the change now than wait another 2 years to realize the same thing

Does rod take a one year deal when he refused to sign til all of his assistants get paid and raises???

I don’t think so. Why I think he’s gone now

That would mean we only offer a 1 year deal, but he has had 6 chances already. We already know how far we can get with him and his assistant. He has to let go of them to see how far we really can go, but its not going to happen. We are in coach purgatory.

    • Lions were never going Freeling over Miller for the same reason we wouldn't have taken Miller had Freeling not been on the board. Miller is a career RT Lions have a hole at RT, we have a hole at LT. If we took Miller, it would have been for him to backup Moton until he retires and/or we release him, so the best case scenario is it would have been a wasted 1st round pick for at least 1, if not 2 years.  At least Freeling has a shot at playing this year without injury ahead of him, he absolutely can win the LT job if he earns it, but Miller would have never supplanted Moton this year unless he got hurt.
    • What up y’all. I like threads like this where we can stroll down memory lane. I remember the insane amount of site traffic pre-crash when we signed Keyshawn Johnson, 06 I believe. Raging about the Cowboys Christmas Eve loss in 05 (Peppers touched that FG attempt as sure as Cotchery caught it). When I found the huddle I basically had a first born baby, now I’ve got one in college and one in high school. Life comes at you fast, but the Panthers and the Huddle has been a steady constant in my life for many years.  Those who have been here, y’all are cool with me any time any where.    Cheers, genitals!
    • This is a weird post since it wasn’t like we got A’s across the board. We needed a QB and got a consensus top 2 player at that position. (I was pretty vocal that Stroud should’ve been the guy but…)  I think this draft we generally got better value. I’m not particularly optimistic on BY but another year in this offense playing with TMac he really needs to be a consistently average QB at a minimum
