Best ACC portal school: FSU

https://247sports.com/longformarticle/acc-footballs-biggest-winners-and-losers-in-2024-transfer-portal-232478429/amp/

meanwhile, Clemson most likely will make a run at 10 win season and compete for the conference title.

But Paul Finnebaum, college football’s Skip Bayless, wants to talk to you about Clemson and why they should be wiped out Thanos style from existing…because they can’t be a top 5 school year in and year out out of the ACC

We could. Just not with Dabo unless Dabo adapts. He’s a dinosaur.

I mean, Clemson will never have a historic run again without adapting.  Clemson's 7 year stretch was one of the an all-time great runs.  Odds are they would never be able to do what they did ever again regardless of using the portal or not though.  That's where the convo is actually skewed IMO.   Clemson was coming off that all time run regardless.  People are claiming it's the lack of portal.  It was just going to happen.

Dinosaur still runs the best and most consistent program in the conference.   The Dabo criticism is still flawed IMO. So, I still largely think it's old haters and now big money that really want to stomp out Dabo.   It's going to keep him from ever being in the natty convo.   98% of college football isn't realistically competing nor have they ever for the natty..... and now you go that 98% willing to ruin college football for nothing to actually change on their end.

Clemson has been a product of their weak AF schedules their entire "run". They are a decent fraud who got lucky here and there. Looks like they'll be in the mix again this season as they don't play anyone else worth a damn the rest of the year.

You don't win national championships by being a fraud. A fraud is what Notre Dame has been exposed as the times they've made the playoffs and proceeded to get curb stomped. You might get to the playoffs as a fraud but once you're there the truth is going to come out.

All the talk is about Uiagalelei, but FSU's run defense was the worst part of their game by far.  263 yards, 5.4 per carry for BC, 199 and 5.6 per carry for GT.  Some of the better teams would have rushed for 400 yards against them.  The reality is that FSU's pass defense isn't even being tested because so far, passing hasn't been needed.

Yep not being able to stop the run combined with not being able to possess the ball.  That makes it even worse because the defense can’t stay off the field.

Yep, FSU just looks like a bad football team. Simple as that.

Literally just need a QB. The difference for Clemson has been do you have a NFL guy or do you not? Gregoria can get by without one. Bama used to as well but when is the last time they trotted out a guy that wasn’t getting drafted early?

A QB hasn’t even been about the portal. He was swift to move away from DJ and not as swift to move away from Cade and hasn’t put anyone behind him to challenge him. I could go on and on about how he’s used his platform to take care of guys instead of building a football program.

Yeah, it’s lost in the Dabo must adapt talk….is that if he even got top 5ish ACC caliber QB play…..he likely would have been in the college playoffs the last 3 seasons.

Dabo’s roster is so good he still gets to about 10 wins with bottom of the barrel ACC QB play.   And he is still recruiting the studs.  Sometimes they are duds.  Biggest issue is Dabo is too loyal and too much rope.  Cade era should have started at the start of DJ’s year 2.  His new kid should have replaced Cade this year.  Loyal to a fault.   But it’s part of the reason why everyone stays at Clemson and doesn’t really transfer that much or go to the pros just because they can.  Overlooked how many first round picks returns to Clemson.   It’s the culture.

I heard Gregoria has some great chants.  lol

Just kidding, knew what you meant.

In all seriousness though, Clemson is getting five star recruits at qb.  Maybe Dabo needs to change his assessment group/method or whatever he uses.

I can't believe how UNC is getting its stars back and not losing them to the portal. Maye should've cashed that check. Omarion Hampton should've cashed that check. I'm selfishly happy they didn't but if they were family I would've told them to cash the check. Football is a brutal sport. Every snap you take could end in a career ending or career altering injury. Return on a subpar team and you could see your draft stock take a big hit. Making it to the NFL is no guarantee even as an elite prospect. I just don't think it's ever a good idea to turn down life altering money now in the game of football.

    • So Willis had a good game against a poor defense and all of a sudden he is worth 50 million and is guaranteed to be better than Young. LOL I know he looked good in the 3 games he started, and I think he will have success long term, but anyone signing him up for a long term contract for 50 million is taking a huge risk.
    • Is he really though? Rivera was past his prime and probably shouldn't have even started 2019 so his firing wasn't really unexpected or unwarranted. Rhule lasted two and a half years which was about one year too long in my opinion. Bringing him back that third year certainly wasn't impulsive and I would say Tepper was more patient than he should have been. Wilks finished out that third season and did pretty good but most everyone could see he really wasn't anything more than an intern HC. Bringing him back was not the long term answer so not bringing him back was the correct call. Hiring Reich was a mistake from the beginning and he recognized that fairly quickly. I am sure he knew he was going to catch a lot of sh*t for firing him so quickly ( and boy did he ) but it was absolutely the right thing to do given everything that was going on. The firing may have looked impulsive, but I think it was him recognizing he had royally f*ck up and just dealt with it instead of letting it fester.  That brings us to Canales. 2025 was only his second season and yet he delivered 8 wins and the NFC South title. And while that might not sound great, given the lack of talent and cap space they started with, it's a strong step in the right direction. I couldn't imagine Tepper not being pleased with their progress given the crap the Panthers' have been though under his ownership.
