Dave Canales is one and done.... part 2.

It’s a difficult position to be in trying to defend this team at any level, roster, coaching, front office or ownership.  I’m not even sure what needs to be fixed first because I’m not sure you can fix both the roster and coaching at the same time.

We either go cheap on the roster while trying to put together a competent staff/front office combo or we stick with the staff we have and retool the roster?

Continuity has to come from somewhere.  We can’t have constant change in all phases of this organization.

If I had to guess I’d say keep Canales and give him a chance to build the roster the way he wants.  QB being the most important position, he at least deserves to put “his” guy out there.  Best we can hope for is that he learns from his mistakes and figures it out.

The roster is so bad it’s going to take multiple years just to get back to a baseline of average starter talent with some competent back ups.  And that will require a competent FO… good lord we may never be good again.

Again, no one forced him to take the job. and again, no one else considered him for it.

What coach that we interviewed this cycle would have succeeded with fixing Bryce?  Because it’s pretty clear that was a term of accepting the job and the organization was already committed to going this direction given the previous investment we made in him. And hey, he probably thought that there was some small chance that building up the little guys confidence like Mike McDaniel did for Tua would pay off, but it was pretty clear after game 2 that he realized it’s just not going to happen. He’s already told us he’s put Bryce back in blowouts to make sure that his 36 year old journeyman doesn’t  get hurt unnecessarily, which is the same thing as saying that IDGAF if this 23 year old number one overall pick gets Alex smithed on the artificial turf at BOA.

I work nights at the hospital and sometimes I have easy nights.

what’s your reason for being awake at 1130?

It's not that late? Heck I didn't crack a beer open until 9:30. PM.

Yeah but we’ll never know what actually happened with reich, because I think at this point we all agree no former nfl player would have met Bryce and drafted him.

I would 'so' love to hear Reich's version of the truth.

    • Brother. You are wholly confusing comparing situations and applying actual standards like most other franchises do like simply getting into a playoff series and winning at least 1 or 2 series games with praising. Nobody is praising the Hawks. Nobody is praising the Magic. Nobody here likes those teams. But reality is reality. The Hawks like other franchises have traded players fired coaches etc but they can still win a couple playoff games. How is that not the bare floor for you or anyone else? What are we doing here if it isn't? We've seen eye to eye on many things over the years. But you are in the camp on the Hornets where you are emotionally attached to LaMelo where you feel the need to carry his water like he's got that juice. That's cool that you feel that way. It's your prerogative. But I differ from that viewpoint entirely. If he had that juice we would not have gotten wiped off the court in 2 play in games with 2 different coaching staffs and rosters. if people don't like hearing that well I'm sorry but how the hell is this team ever going to get better and ultimately go anywhere in the postseason if we just blindly pat them on the back for getting their asses whooped before they actually even get into the real playoffs? There seem to be some Bryce Young level standards being applied here. That's wild to me. But to each his own.
    • Proctor/Freeling were always the belles of the ball where we were picking. What those two *could* become at OT was far greater than what others could be at their respective positions and I’m glad our FO could see that.
    • I mean, our TE room does suck but we had other pressing needs and no surefire upgrades in the draft. I was surprised at how many TEs went in the first three rounds. I think most everyone was. You want a guy who projects at least as a guy who has the potential ceiling to be a starter in those rounds and I didn't see 11 of those in this draft. Off the top of my head, I think that's how many TEs went in the first three rounds. It was in that range. That's roughly 10% of the overall picks. Definitely did NOT see that coming with this TE class.
