Never draft an injured player and never draft a RB before round 3

I think frank gore tore his knee twice in college and ended up #2 or #3 all time in rushing yards.

That being said? Brooks going down in season 1 is more than disappointing considering we traded UP in R2 to get him, when we had sore needs on defense to fix.

I agree that you shouldn't take a badly injured player before day 3 of the draft. You don't lose much of you took a chance on an injured player on the last day of the draft because a lot of those fail to make an impact in the NFL anyway.

It's wrong to say that you should "NEVER" draft a running back before round 3. It all depends on the player and the circumstances on the team that is doing the drafting.

The 76' Cowboys were a break-away back from winning a SB. I don't think they had any regrets drafting Tony Dorsett when they won the SB in the 77 season. Do you think the Chicago Bears don't regret taking Walter Payton in the 1st round? Did the Steelers regret taking Franco Harris?

If you think those guys played at a different time then I'll give some more modern RBs.Tomlinson, Adrian Peterson, Shaquan, Marshawn Lynch all lived up to the 1st round selection.

I know you can find good RBs after the 2nd round in just about any round. However, a  transcendent RB is worth a 1st round selection. A shrewd GM just has to be able to determine which RBs are run of the mill and which RBs are truly special.

      It probably would be. Given that most 6th and 7th rounders aren't NFL game day material except on the Panthers, the pick might improve us slightly with a drafted player, but I'd like to see us actually be able to open up the field. I do think some of our offensive problem stem from defenses aren't afraid of Bryce's arm. They cover a short field and that makes life a lot easier for them.  If it doesn't work though, unless we get rid of the scouting department and whatever drafting algorithm Dave is making us use, it won't really matter anyway.

      I think the Baker/Darnold thing has been overblown. QBs that struggle with the team that drafts them and go on to find success elsewhere often do end up going to multiple new teams before they figure it out and/or find the right situation. It just so happened that we traded for both guys in back-to-back years and neither player had quite figured it out yet. Baker, I think, needed more time and a better supporting cast. Darnold, I think, benefitted from a year on the bench in San Francisco a ton. I don't really have any ill will towards either of them. I think they both came here with the best intentions after coming from difficult circumstances; unfortunately the Panthers were - and still are, it seems - also in the process of figuring things out.

      At this point this is all I want from this team. I'm done hoping for wins. I just want to see a competitive team for 4 quarters. Come out of the gate hard and don't give up no matter the score.
