PFF: grading WR by ability to separate, YAC and catching the ball

Thielen: top 15 ish % overall. @NAS not to call you out, just something we were discussing the other day. Thielen is having a fantastic year by rate

I always called out Thielen as the exception but he’s not someone you can target deep consistently due to lack of speed.  But overall WR corps is very subpar, Coker will do well once he gets more experience.  XL has been a disappointment to me, he started off promising but has regressed for whatever reason, could be his injury issue but concerned about his lack of ability to separate

Hence why I said he is better suited to being a backup/4th guy. Let him attempt to develop in that role. He is a driver killer extraordinaire in a 1-3 role.

I hope he works on his hands in the off season. He's looking like a wasted pick when we could have had ladd. I'll just pretend coker was the first pick and legette was undrafted... That makes it easier to stomach

Yeah, I was REALLY not a fan of this draft outside of Sanders and very unfortunately my initial reaction has been accurate.

Quite a few Huddlers were bullish on the Coker signing but I never put much stock in any UDFA. Potentially huge pickup for us there.

I just hope we show a lot more competence in the next draft so we can shake the stink off of the rest of the Tepper era draft picks.

Let's give him next year before we call him a bust...even out middle school sized QB is getting that.

I am not calling any of them a bust yet. I am just saying it looks a lot like 4th-7th round guys that we took.

Being so insanely fundamentally flawed(XL) is really a pretty bad start. Especially for a guy that was in college for 5 years.

XL basically only had one full season of actual production his final year. I see him as a raw guy compared to someone like Coker who at least got a ton more playing time. You could argue we should've gone with a guy who had more college playing experience, although it's not as often you see rookie receivers go off anyways unless they are in the ideal QB/system situation. The drops are concerning but the fact he's been in position to make big plays I'd say is far better results than guys like TMJ/Mingo have ever done. Also, all these rookies got a lot of playing time this year, so hopefully that will get them all to take a bigger step their second year.

According to this graph, he is separating fine, it's high-pointing and catching the ball which seems to be the issue.

Catching with your hands is like rebounding well: if it’s something you don’t do in college you generally don’t become a good one

Not naturally. No. But I feel like you can improve your hands with practice. I think tracking the ball is one of those things you either have or don't. That's when they just become DBs.

    • What?!?!?! Chark's 1,000 yard season was 4 years before he played for us and he only had 525 yards in 15 games as our #1 WR.  Dude has 3,100 yards in 7 seasons, he's the literal definition of a JAG and you think he is better than half our current WR room? T-Mac is literally already better than Chark was at his peak, which again, was years before he ever even put on a Panthers uniform, and there is a real argument to be made that XL and Coker were both better as rookies than Chark was for us in his one season here.
    • Im glad we're starting low. It's nonsensical to put us at 28 IMHO based on objective things IMHO (I think 21-24) is far more appropriate but whatever. Washington was at the bottom last year FWIW.  In 2003, Sports Illustrated said our best chance to win the division was to transfer to the ACC. In 2015, everyone wrote us off as a team that snuck into the playoffs with a losing record in 2014 and lost our best WR in TC (Kelvin Benjamin). All these videos are fodder for conversation, but this prediction has no more validity than saying the Panthers are making the SB bc we're starting the season against the Jaguars again. If Bryce plays like he did down the stretch we will end up the season just fine. This roster is much better than it has been the last 2 seasons. No one knows who any season will ultimately end up, but this team is finally being built in the right way, and the idea that this roster can't compete this year is as insane as being it was when we were gaslit in 2023 that we were a rookie QB from winning the division with that roster.
