Ron as DC

I believe any DC candidate should be a strong with HC experience.   No reason to settle for less. One that is capable of coaching any scheme.

Ron does fit those requirements,  although so do others.

Ron wouldn't be a bad choice, although the search, if there is to be one,  needs to be fair and thorough,  and let the best candidate win the position.

It's going to come down to whoever they can convince to take it. It's the same situation they faced with trying to find a headcoach.

I'm not buying Peyton and Harbaugh wanted the job here.

Word has it that the Jets will give him the first crack of the HC job for them. Just leave that here...

Ron’s strength is a culture builder, perfect for stopping a disaster of an org and get them close to normal. Then someone else will have to take over to take them from normalized to good. Ron is not a bad choice for the Jets, but I’m not sure they have the patience to start doing things the right way.

I think we’ll have a decent chance to get Saleh as he’s friends with Canales, good change of scenery for him, and turning around the disaster of a defense that is the Panthers would set him up for a future second chance at a HC job. And he would get paid really well.

Maybe Harbaugh. I think the drive to get back into the NFL was probably fairly strong. Also the challenge presented here would satisfy that competitive edge on him.

I would be in agreement about Peyton.

I would be a little surprised if we have a well-known DC. It will take someone looking for a particular challenge, or someone looking for their big break.

I think he used Tepper to get the Chargers gig.

Very likely. I mean he is back on the West Coast. He went to a team that had some pieces in place but had underachieved. On the other hand, it's all just speculation since he was never really considered here, or offered the job, as far as we know.

He was out as soon as he heard about the Monday morning meetings.

100%.  You got a trainwreck? Well, you hire a Fox, Ron, etc type.  You want over the hump? You replace those types.  Often you can't just jump to the over the hump types because they often aren't good with the pooshow.   Wilks is an example of that mold as well.

there are some unicorns.  I think Dan Campbell might be an example but rare.

It would be no established HC's first choice, unless that coach just wants to truly rebuild a franchise.

    • They can get film of all the games? Every team? Wow! Who knew… Our games with them are big examples of why they are in  the CB market so hard.   It is the study they do getting ready for the games.  Preparing to play against is a little different than just analyzing film in scout mode. Deeper dive. Then you are analyzing post game too.  This goes to why players often change teams but stay in the division. The opponents know each other on a higher level.  Plus if you lost to us, you used to get fired. Now you have to trade your first round pick. Moving up on the world.
    • I honestly can’t believe this team’s turnaround this season. It’s surreal. Figured healthy we’d be fringe playoffs and with another lottery pick could finally turn the corner, but we don’t even need that. This group is ready. We haven’t played remotely well the last 5 games and yet still blew out 5 bad teams by 16+ each game like it was casual practice. We had a few solid teams with Kemba and Big Al but this is easily our best group since the original Hornets moved to NO. Man, what a shift in culture this new ownership group and front office has brought. So damn happy to see it after years of suffering and consistently meaningless games in this stretch of previous seasons.   Only 2.5 games out of the 6 seed, although Miami, Atlanta and Orlando have been playing well too. Gonna be a fun final stretch, hopefully we can get a top 8 seed at the very least. Celtics tomorrow will be a good test. Would be huge to keep the road winning streak up against a very hot top team on the 2nd half of a back to back. We’ve played Boston pretty well the last few years with much of this same group despite sucking so I do feel pretty good about it. Kon is due for a huge game coming off a few cold shooting games (although despite the poor shooting he’s been contributing well with defense, assists and rebounds).
    • It amazes me how underrated Horn has become after he finally was able to stay on the field. Sure last year wasn’t perfect but he was still a huge reason for our rebound defensively and I’d say he’s easily a top 10 corner. You don’t want to see Mike Jackson as our top corner. Any player is available for the right price but I’d be extremely hesitant to move Horn even for a big haul from LA.
