I'd say Moore is the next most versatile already being familiar with this system but he's just a guy. Maybe Thompkins for similar reasons but everything I've seen tells me he's really more of a decoy to get other guys open.

After that, you have Tremble followed by a massive drop-off with the three rookies in XL/Coker/JT, all who get a fair amount of snaps together. Hopefully, getting a lot of experience now will speed things up for year two but it's certainly hampering things on the short term.

Part of me thinks that need to give the the rookies the reps on the field sneaks into the playcalling. Like how Canales really wanted XL out there for the Bucs game and he ends up getting a lot of targets. A little surprised JT isn't getting that type of focus but it's possible they are working him more with blocking since he had issues with holding calls earlier in the year.

I think they decided to go with the rookies when they traded Johnson. If even 1 of the rookies would step up Theilen could work the defense to help them. As it is now he has to be our offensive threat all by himself.

This.

Chuba will have 2-3 gashing runs in a row. 10+ yard variety. The defense hasn’t had a chance to change personnel, and then he’ll call 3 low percentage passes in a row. 3rd and 3? Bomb it, son. Ok, now punt. Our defense is tired. In the blink of an eye they’re now down 17 -0 instead of the game being potentially 10-7 had he just continued to do the obvious. Good job being down 3 scores instead of 1. He gets allergic to the run at the worst possible time.

He definitely feels himself, frequently. Thielen and Chuba have bailed him out time and time again.

Yeah, I mean one of the best ways to handle a suspect defense is to grind the opponent to paste with a dominant rushing attack. Which....we are literally built for.

Using the Dallas game as an example, Canales abandoned the run before the game was even out of hand after a few poor drives and allowed their pass rushers to do what they do best. Even Micah Parsons mentioned this himself. Additionally, I don't know if I have ever seen Canales run the ball on a third and short.

The feeling I get is that he is in over his head as a play caller and needs to pass it on to someone else.

Hubbard had only 4 fewer carries on 3rd and short than Derrick Henry did.  He had as many as Bijan Robinson and 2 fewer than Josh Jacobs.

Yeah, I don’t know what the statistics are. But if I had to guess, I would guess that most of Chuba opportunities come on goal line situations. Either way Canales playcalling in short situation don’t pass eyeball test.

We are averaging 290 yards a game, almost dead last but hey that is up from 265 last year.  So I guess technically you are correct

He has Bryce Young at QB, there's really not a great deal you can do.

I don't really have a problem with his play calling - the plays are often there to be made.

    • You’re playing madden we’re talking real football stuff…. He does have you seen his special on internet he def thinks he’s getting paid
    • Without the team having an identity kinda hard to predict what they value.  They either are really trying to build a balanced team, or preparing for another swing at qb if Bryce doesn’t pan out. Seems like we value the o line but the $ spent there has been underwhelming besides Lewis, you could say it’s because of injuries but still hasn’t been worth the investment. as already stated, the whole handling of Bryce young as a whole has been ass backwards, we spent the years we’re supposed to take advantage of having a qb with a lower cap hit, building the team up to be adequate. now It appears, key word appears, the saints have done it correctly, which is painful to even think about. Regardless, I hope the front office has paid attention to qb contracts recently, such as Tua, Kyler, Daniel jones(pre colts) and don’t settle for subpar qb play at franchise qb rates
    • This is the flaw in your logic.  Cutting 3 of our best players will somehow move us from whatever we are to "compete". Even the most Young super fans are not predicting a ceiling above top 10-12, and that will not nearly cut it.  Someone will need to break the log jam of QBs getting nothing or North of 50. Our qb is at best a middle ground, lets hope it will be us that also manage to pay the worth at about 100 over 3 years.  And before you jump me, yes that is only of he improves.
