“QB Whisperer”

I guess I always thought it was a figure of speech until now. Kevin O’Connell proves he is an actual QB whisperer and has helped Sam Darnold achieve his full potential.

I would love to hear what the conversation sounds like with Canales and Bryce

Unreal how the Vikings lucked into KOC after harbaugh fell through

or how they lucked into darnold while dodging the Kirk cousins bullet

KOC has exceeded my expectations and obviously I’d love to have him over Canales, but I still think Harbaugh is the better coach and Chargers will be better off than the Vikings.

Maybe, but it’s not like the Vikings tuned harbaugh down. It was a weird situation where everyone just assumed harbaugh was going to Minnesota, including the Vikings, and including harbaugh and it just didn’t happen.

i remember reports that harbaugh expected the full red carpet recruitment treatment and the Vikings thought they didn’t need to do all that.

I think the year at the 49ers, sitting and learning helped Darnold as well

their  staff is pretty good too

he seemed to always be a good guy with great physical talent

good for him

Yes it’s reported that Kyle Shannahan really didn’t want to let Darnold go but he couldn’t offer him the starting job over Purdy.

Kevin O'Connell had only 2 full seasons of work as an offensive coordinator before being hired and one of those was with Washington.

He's made a big jump in his third season. I'm hoping to see similar from Canales.

As far as Darnold goes it's really going to be interesting to see how he adjusts to the playoff atmosphere. I'm expecting to see some flashes of the old Darnold. The question will be can the new Darnold overcome that when the lights are the brightest.

Sam went through absolute Hell and ended up in such a great situation for himself. Sitting and learning while with Kyle Shanahan and now working with Kevin O'Connell? Feels good man.

Darnold’s weakness has always been mental. Dude has all the tools to be an elite QB in the NFL. If the Vikings were wise they would let their rookie sit for another season or 2 and extend Darnold, if he doesn’t Darnold in the playoffs that is. If you go look at Darnolds highlights this year he has been getting away with a lot of plays that in earlier years would have been interceptions. Is it him improving or his offensive cast being so good. Both?
There was a great play against the Vikings where he threw it into double coverage and right to where only the Vikings player could get it.
Is he only good with the Vikings because his offensive around him is elite? If they let him walk will he have the same success or will we return to his earlier self?

    • I know it's only been training camp and one preseason game, but I think T-Mac has already shown his floor to be exactly what I said about him in the pre-draft process. That his floor if he never improves his game, is as one of the best #2 WRs in the NFL, if not even still a low end #1 (i.e. a 25th-ish best WR in the league). I think it's safe to say he's already established himself as our #1, and there are only a small handful of teams in the league where I don't think he'd be their starting #2 WR in Week 1. Bengals (Higgins), Dolphins (Waddle), Eagles (Smith), Bucs (Godwin if healthy), Rams (Adams) are really the only teams where I think he'd be the #3 as a rookie in Week 1.  A few others like the Lions (Williams), Bears (Odunze), Seahawks (Kupp), Commanders (Deebo), where he'd be the 2b to start the season, just because they're vets and/or already have a year or two of experience with their team/QB. And even having said that, I think by year 2, he's better than every one of those players (And no, I'm not saying he's already going to be better than a prime version of Adams, just whatever he'll be at 33 next year), and same goes for Kupp, but that's more because it seems like his body might be quitting on him in a way that hasn't happened to Adams (yet).
    • Well to be fair, Horn not practicing right now to let his stitches heal up from a car accident isn't something that should be concerning.  Sure, you don't want him missing practice leading into the season, but it's one that once healed, won't have lingering affects or fear of re-injuring it, it was just bad luck.
    • Quality backups are absolutely important. This franchise has been plagued with depth problems. That said, there is a little bit of dismay that Mays can't beat out a 1-legged man, and all the talk going into the off-season was how BC would certainly be gone since he had position versatility.  In the end, it doesn't matter too awfully much, as I would be shocked to no end if Corbett makes it through the season. We know what we have in reserve, and that should surely be better than trying to sign random fat guys mid season to try and take over.
