I would rather draft #1 overall than later on the draft. Moral victories can't be measured. Draft capital can be. One has real value. The other is cope.

I kinda agree with you on this one. It took the #1 pick in the 2023 draft to find our franchise QB after numerous failed attempts.

I wish Sam Darnold nothing but the best. Seems like a legit good guy. I wish Baker wasn't on Tampa because honestly I like him too.

I really thought Mayfield was going to be the guy here, and had he fit into McAdoo's system then it may have worked out differently. He would have done great in Joe Brady's offense.

And look at the draft capital we had to give up to get it. We went 5-3 down the stretch that season to tank our draft stock then had to gut the team of roster building capital trade up to #1. Perfect example of why late our of contention wins are significant net negatives for the future of an organization.

Me too. He was terrible here though, gotta say. That season was a massive cluster fug where it seemed like no part of the organization was fully committed to either QB.

Tonight we are all Vikings fans.

Idk the Lions are like a kindred spirit for us I don't wish Darnold any ill but the Vikings have had plenty of regular season success the last several years their fans aren't starved. I'll be pulling for a fellow tortured sports city in Detroit. I hope they win it all.

He’s gonna turn into a pumpkin after some bad team gives up 2 1sts and 300 million bucks to get him in the offseason lol.

It's gonna be really interesting to see what the Vikings do this off-season. They just spent a first rounder on McCarthy last year and then he got hurt in preseason.

Honestly, if I'm them I'm probably tagging Darnold and figuring it out from there.

You gotta think there’s gonna be at least one crazy offer on the phone after the seasons over.  The deeper they go, the crazier.

    • Plenty of teams are QB desperate so someone will probably roll massive dice on Willis and give him a legit franchise QB contract but that's insane. He hasn't done anything that warrants anything more than signing a short term prove it deal and being offered a fair chance to compete for a starting job in camp. Signing up for any commitment level beyond that would be crazy.
    • I don't know that he is a pro bowler but I think he has earned the right to compete for a starting job. I think if he were in this draft he's the number 2 QB behind Mendoza. And his tools are better than Mendoza in terms of arm mobility. That said Mendoza is far more advanced as a passer. I think if I'm one of those QB needy teams that needs a starter this season like are we saying he isn't better than Sanders? I think we are asking is he better than Kyler? I know he's better than Fields. And at this stage in his career he's better than Rodgers. So the idea that he won't start somewhere to me next year I can't see it
    • Maybe that's because we don't have a good tight end? I don't think anyone we have at tight end warrants the kind of attention Sadiq would. Like talent wise he's on a different planet than probably all our tightens combined
