I'd imagine any of those playoff teams in the late 1st would be very interested.  It's not going to be like last year when you had McConkey, Pearsall, Legette, Worthy, AD Mitchell, and K. Coleman lurking around near the end of the round at WR, not alot of great wrs in this class. Last year was an anomaly in how much offense went off the board in R1.

And that was after BTJ, Neighbors, Odunze, and Harrison JR had already been picked.

This class is just weak at QB and WR where last year was much stronger. This class is more about defenders and RBs vs qbs and wrs

I liked Sawyer when he was a second rounder, but not in the first.  I think he has limitations, but he is a dawg. Not sure he will ever be that 12 sack guy, but you will get 6 and he will hold the edge, imo.  I am afraid this game will inflate his stock.

I think this draft is pretty even from about pick 12 through the second round--not a huge dropoff--the play may be to trade back and get 3 players instead of staying at #8 and getting another pick at #54 or so.

I think we are going to need 2 DL, 1 edge, 1 CB, 1 LB, and maybe 2 Safeties. Not sure if we are keeping Clowney and/or Wonnum-as much as it hurts our cap, we probably should.

Trading down from 8 in a draft without premium offensive talent is going to be difficult imo. We traditionally don't move from 8 and stick and pick, ala Horn (8), Brown (7), CMC (8), Kuechly (9)

Need to address pass rusher and safety in FA as well as draft. Can't expect rookies to  come in and have an immediate impact. Having Derrick Brown back will help a lot, but another defense like last year is not acceptable.

His workouts would have to be pretty bad for him to make it to us in the 2nd. I think he probably goes in the late 1st/early 2nd range.

They will be. As much as you can say this about a D1 athlete, he is not very athletic. I don't see him blowing up the combine or pro-days.

Next year Clowney and Wonnom have a combined cap hit of 21 million.  Honestly, that isn't bad for two decent players.  I like Wonnom, If he improves against the run he is a solid situational pass rusher / back-up / spot starter.  That's what 8 million buys you at the EDGE.  Clowney on the other hand has a 13 million cap hit.  Not terrible, but he needs to stay healthier.  Adding a rookie who can play 30 - 40% of the snaps could help keep JC healthier IMOP.

I think a free agent pass rusher (if we keep Wonnum and Clowney) would break the bank (without doing any research, mind you), so I think we have to look draft for that edge....S? I think we can get a free agent to help.  I am guessing Fuller will not be back and Richardson will step up into that role--and I am also guessing that Woods will not be back--Of course, before teams start negotiating, you don't know what you have but I really like Tre'von Moehrig from the Raiders.  He does not sound that interested in returning to Vegas.  He is 26 and covers the field.

Good FA pass rushers are almost always insanely expensive. But, we don't have a ton of draft capital to address it either.

It will be interesting to see what happens.

There seem to be an unusual number of good 4-3 DEs in this draft. Not sure if Sawyer fits in a 3-4 or not. But I love him as a football player, he’s the type of player you want on your team.

I think there's more than a few EDGEs that can play 5-tech which is what I'd like to think we target as our base is only deployed so much of the time.  You need the types that can stand or go hands-in-the-dirt package dependent.

A lot of drafts are more packed with the speedy athletic ones, but I'm seeing guys like Sawyer, his teammate JT (who I find possibly even more intriguing), Gillote, Ivey, Ezeiruaku, Swinson ain't too bad either.  All with solid power & athleticism to their games.

There's some that are the high upside sub-package only types like Princely, Pearce, etc. but it's a deeper crew that offers a wide range of talent.  Not a fan of the top, but I would be miffed if we don't land one in Round 2-4.

Heavily favored to go to the Lions at 30ish

Right. Draft pass rushers and a safety and bring in vets. I'm thinking aging vets that could mentor young guys for a year or two. Not sure Panthers can afford to make huge splashes in FA yet. Pass rush needs two guys like you said and one ball hawk at Safety. I think Richardson would do well as an in the box type.

But look at the FA list for this off-season, it is not real appealing for young edge talent.

    • Yes, he's a tier above them, but you also touched on the money side of it.  With T-Mac locked in as our #1 on a rookie contract for a few more years, I'd much rather use that money that would be needed for DJ on our defense and develop Coker into our #2.   Especially given his contract situation as an UDFA, as his contract is up at the end of this year but we can keep him around for a 3rd team controlled year on the real cheap.  Which means we probably could get him to sign a very reasonable extension this offseason to give him a little more money while giving us a bargain contract for what he provides. DJ's contract is north of $20 million for the next 5 years, why pay that for your #2 WR with the needs we have on defense and you have guys like Coker, XL, and Horn on rookie contracts who very well could combine to be a serviceable 2-4 WRs behind a stud in T-mac? I love DJ and he'd be a great fit on this team as our #2, but the money side of it just makes absolutely zero sense, that's all it comes down to for me on this one. And no, I don't see the Bears wanting XL back in that trade, because they drafted Burden, who is essentially a better version of what XL provides, a player you want to get the ball into their hands and let them go to work.
    • I didnt see that many bad calls in the panthers cowboys game, but the chiefs especially in the playoffs were getting every single call they could get then the refs when it didnt matter would throw a call towards the other teams.  That I believe was the taylor swift effect.   But its crazy just thinking about how easy it is to change a game.  You dont need but a single ref to make a few close calls go towards one team over the other and in the nfl that is the game.
    • I don't think it's unrealistically blaming Bryce Young......to say has been a reason, sometimes a big one, in why our pass offense overall has been extremely week over the past 3 collective seasons.  I think that bothering anyone, is just being overly invested in some Bryce Young argument.  It's just a reality.
