Moton, Hunt, and Lewis by themselves combines for ~68 million of the cap

Cutting bad contracts like Shy Tuttle, Miles Sanders, Dane Jackson, and Yosh Nijman would opening up ~18 million

Extending Horn and Moton would open up more space this season also

I read where some said they were going to cut Clowney and Wonnum to save $15m.  I don't see it.  Wonnum?  Maybe.

I could see where at least one of them goes. Panthers are definitely drafting an Edge this year. Maybe bringing in another vet. Clowney and Wonnum are paid too much to be backups.

I cannot see them releasing both as they are thin at the position as it is. If anything their backups should be worried about having a job here next season. Barno and Johnson are not cutting it.

Barno was injured most of the season, but that is part of it.

I strongly think they need to extent Wonnum, not cut him.

In fact I was going to make a thread with the title of "Who should the Panthers extent?" Bypass the horn or icky easy TD and listed Wonnum as my choice.

Per Mike Kaye, Charlotte Observer

▪ Impending free agents: If this beat writer was in Brady Christensen’s shoes, I’d look to head elsewhere for better pay and a guaranteed starting job. But if he can’t and that opportunity, the Panthers getting him back would be a huge boost for the ofensive line. Otherwise, the rest of the re-signing options are pretty much toss-ups.

Long snapper JJ Jansen and punter Johnny Hekker have value beyond their job titles. Cornerback Mike Jackson, tight end Tommy Tremble and wide receiver David Moore really t in well with the culture, and all three played well in pretty big spots this season.

Andy Dalton wants to return, and with Bryce Young in the QB1 seat, keeping that room together makes sense.

Feleipe Franks and Sam Franklin are logical targets for re-signing because of their value on special teams. Re-signing Austin Corbett and Cade Mays to compete at center is a logical, costeective strategy that seems to align with the way the Panthers will approach their already expensive trench group

This is pretty much what I wanted to say except I'm not sure about Corbett unless it's cheap and because he's an experienced vet who helps the others with professionalism. THat's the same reason I'd keep Dalton. Coaches on the team has a lot of value. Shaq could be another. Depends on money. Shaq definitely wants to play here.

    • I mean this is legit AF statement....you don't spend that draft capital on a project just like you don't trade up for an injured RB either, which was done in the same draft.  That draft IMO was a necessary evil for DM to learn from his mistakes (I think he did but some may not). Also I have to mention I'm a big Coker fan and think getting him as an UDFA was obv a steal.  Coker is the better WR2 at this point as Legette and its not even debatable unfortunately.  Give him year 3 but don't expect much from him.  Continue in the offseason with adding as much talent and competition on the roster as possible including WR.  Or just trade his ass for peanuts and continue to build roster by any means.......
    • Losing him was a huge loss. Look at how the Bears went from a 5 win team to now a 11 win team. The Lions offensive line is bad this year, secondary is bad and Campbell going for it on 4th down all the time has cost them games instead of taking the Field Goals. Goff is inconsistent as well.
    • Nah we just talking about giving a platform and normalizing predators (who both beat women) opinions and celebrating it if it fits your narrative.  If that's fun I'm fine being a miserable fug by not supporting P.O.S like that. N b4 you call me a libtard or some other dumb ish know I'm an Anarchist/Libertarian and believe both these dudes should get a complete ass whooping (at min) or something worse for what they have done to women in this world.
