It's who they prioritize, though.

Joe Schoen has a pretty good rep when it comes to talent scouting. As a team manager though, not so much.

It's not like barkley was some 100 million or 20 per guy. He was cheap. They could have easily fit him into the formula.

You prioritize elite talent and IF Schoen didn't see barkley as that.....Well you got a problem. Some teams just don't pay ____ like the rams don't pay MLBs, many teams don't pay safety, etc. Lots of teams don't pay RB, titans didn't pay Derrick Henry, pollard was a tag the year before, swift when for cheap. It was and been a buyers market for RBs.....

Of course Panthers have a long history of paying RBs and MLBs/LBs, while others didn't...

I don't believe in paying RBs, but if that's all what I feel is elite Barkley is asking, 100% pay it. Now this would be different if Barkley got injured again.......

I understand prioritizing a quarterback.

I don't understand that quarterback being Daniel Jones 😕

They called a all-in river bet and busted. That was schoen too.....

It's sorta like jags, they were scared about replacing Trevor........... Jones played well that year and they already turned down the 5th year op. Panic set in and they gave him that insane contract. It's still not as bad as Wilson or Watson.

I get the fear, but you what the giants should have done was tag him or go back in time for the 5th year option. I think it was only around 19 million, he wasn't worth that either.....

You need great QB coaches and minds to not allow that.....

Fear makes us all do wrong...

Schoen and Morgan were colleagues in Buffalo. If the Giants give him the heave ho, I could see Morgan giving him a pure scouting job.

I had a higher opinion of him two years ago...

In fact I had him as a top three before fissererererer got the keys. league sure does change fast for some...

It's annoying that this discussion keeps going back to arguing over the investment. It's not just the investment you can draft RB's in the first two rounds but you don't trade up to draft a back with a torn ACL who also isn't a game changer and would be a mid round pick at best in the the upcoming draft.

Dan Morgan should be getting a hell of a lot more grief for that trade and selection instead some people want to shine his shoes because he's a former Panther.

you dont have to be a doctor to know trading up in the 2nd to draft a hurt running back is monumentally stupid

Not debating the gamble. I just think it’s funny everyone here thinks they know what right looks like in terms of rehabilitation and return to sport.

We certainly botched the handling of Brooks’s rehab and/or his return to play decision.

I’m still not giving up on Brooks becoming an important contributor to our team. Unfortunately, I don’t think that happens until 2026.

How did we botch it? He was handled with kid gloves.

That said, we should cut him now. He'll be a non-contributor for 2 years. No use for him on the roster.

    • A winning record would be nice, but I still have us winning around the 6 to 8 game mark. Realistically we should beat the Jets and Saints, that gets us to 5 wins. After that, we have to face a lot of potential play off teams and our divisional opponents. I think we’ll win 1 or 2 of those games to take us to 6 or 7 wins, perhaps 8 wins if we can spring a further surprise.  Is that enough progress for head coach and QB? I’m not sure, it will depend on performances and output. That said, it’s nice to be back in a position where we are thinking about the play offs.
    • I would tend to agree about not falling into the trap and paying a below average QB, but sometimes situations can “force” a team to pay that QB. For example, if we play ourselves into a 9-8 like record, then what options will we have in the draft? Or do we avoid the draft and trade for or sign someone in free agency?  I’m not convinced by the 2026 QB draft class. There’s some intriguing prospects but no one that really screams “draft me”. I’m not sure we’ve got anyone really that stands out as a trade candidate or free agent signing. So although we might not want to commit a big money contract to Young, him playing well and showing progress might force the team’s hand.
    • Realistically we would be looking at no more than a mid round pick for Dowdle or Chuba. Are we really that desperate for a mid round pick? Not really. I would much prefer us utilise the two RBs in a 1-2 punch similar to how we used D-Will and Stewart. After all, Bryce is not Drew Brees. He won’t throw for 300+ yards and carry the team consistently as a passer. So having a strong running game with a 1-2 punch will be beneficial to him, and it will also be beneficial to the RBs because we can spell them and not overwork them.
