What’s our plan at MLB?

Recommended Posts

I do understand that Derick Brown’s injury along with the lack of talent on the D-line was the main reason for our atrocious run defense, but the lack of quick instinctual flowing MLB who can shoot gaps and shed blocks on a consistent basis was also a huge reason why our defense was so horrible. Trevin Wallace was underwhelming, Shaq hurt, Jewell had a few awesome games but overall  was just ok and hurt a lot.

So my question is, does Morgan draft a pure LB in the 2nd 3rd or 4th round? Barrett Carter (Clemson) Smael Mondon Jr (UJA) Chris Paul Jr (Ole) Cody Simon (OSU) are all LB’s that would tremendously help this defense. And this is assuming we don’t pick Jalon Walker in the 1st. Or even if we do, double dipping on a LB/Edge hybrid like walker and a pure MLB might not  be the worst idea.

Sucks that the positions we drafted last year early on (RB and LB) are still areas of need.

I think it’s still Wallace. He was not supposed to be ready last year but injuries made him play a ton. He has a nose for the ball and think will be okay this year

I kept hearing that he wasn’t supposed to play, but why not? I don’t understand why a 3rd round pick LB can’t play right away and perform. It’s a much easier position to play compared to others. MLB is similar to RB.. A lot of reading and reacting. Relying on instincts. If he was a 5th or 6th then ok, but it sounds like Wallace was over drafted if the expectations were that low. The ND MLB for Dallas performed great all year. Drafted a round or two after Wallace.

He was viewed as a relatively raw guy coming in and he mostly proved to be that. I don't think it would have been as noticeable if the rest of the defense around him wasn't so insanely bad.

If you get better talent around him, his fug ups while he is learning/adjusting won't be as obvious.

In our 3-4 I think it’s Wallace and Jewell. If we get Shaq back on a cheap deal then I’m sure he is part of the equation as well.

This is what I feel too.

I mean us draft folks are planning on a heavy defense draft, that means LBs too. I wouldn't be against adding a vet (cheap) too. They are like RB in their market is super cold.

Yeah I remember hearing that about him. Just wished change that way we draft. Stop taking raw projects (Trevin, XL) instead take proven players

That is because there arent many game changing MLBs in the league right now.

Who is even the best? Fred Warner I guess? The league used to have a number of guys at MLB that were sure fire HoF talents....not so much anymore.

He was a very high level talent guy that was known needed some time to adapt to the NFL. Also I think in our scheme the MLB calls the defense and has the headset. It definitely is not an easy position for a rookie

Bears traded one to ravens. Rams nearly gave away a young great one for draft swap trash.

I think you are right about Warner and I would say Smith is right next to him with this past year. I honestly don't follow the league like before, but it does feel like a lack of prime MLBs out there. I think that due to all the players growth up now must/super want to be either QB or WR. At least was the reports from these youth camps, the line for WR or QB is 50 depth. The line for LB or CB is like 6.

Because the Panthers prefer players that are projects versus plug and play

    • The league would protect him.  The amount of poo Jerry Jones has had exposed and got away with?  The amount of poo Stephen Ross has got away with?  How long Dan Snyder got away with essentially fuging sex trafficking employees and poo???????  Taking down JR was a hit job.  You think the other 31 owners, especially the older ones aren’t blathering, blatant, ignorant ass, bigoted rich racists who have committed far worse things than Blue Jean Fridays?  The ones I named above have DEFINITELY did worse than what JR was accused of.  And do you think guys like Steve Smith would’ve been viewing him as a father figure if they felt that’s who he was?  JR pissed the league off with that last lockout situation and they made him pay.  They lined a new guy up to join their billionaire boys club in Tepper, and they prolly slid a pretty penny to Jonathan Jones to write the “expose,” to get JR out of here.  Again, all the owners I’ve listed above have been verified on record for doing worse poo, yet they’re still running their organizations, unquestioned.  They hand-picked Tepper long before JR was forced out, so he isn’t going anywhere.  Sadly.  fug the NFL.  (Also, to be clear, it’s always fug racism, bigotry, and sexual exploitation - not ever excusing it.  Just making the point that the NFL isn’t operating under this clear standard of justice applied to each and every case)
    • I was still in the throes of a contentious divorce and my job at the time had me work on Sundays.  At the beginning of the season I tried to still work around Sundays so I could see our games.  I think after Bryce came back from the benching, I said fug it.  First time in my life I intentionally didn’t watch our games, even through the Atlanta finale.  In the past, even if we didn’t live up to expectations, I would watch to still support and at least analyze player development, strengths and weaknesses, coaching, etc., but Bryce makes all of that a moot point, so I stopped watching. Again, this is asinine,  it if he is retained (still can’t believe this is even a possibility of a conversation due to how shitty our organization has become under Tepper), I will NOT watch next season until he is gone.
    • Live look at Bryce playing ping pong.
