Pat Yasinskas Matt Moore article

He isn't Superman, man. :P

But I think this QB compeition is going to be interesting. If Clausen can get the hang of the offense this season & show he is better, he will be the starter & our franchise QB that could last longer here than Jake and Steve did here.

He won't have to show he is better. He is likely going to be much cheaper so all he has to do is show he can do the job reasonably as well and he will win the job by default. Clausen will likely get a contract for 5 years and 20 million. The average starting NFL quarterback makes about 10 million per year once they are beyond their rookie contract. So if Moore has a good year he is going to be paid accordingly. With all the other expiring contracts that are going to require big signing bonuses, unless Jerry is willing to spend around 70 million on the position and invest over 100 million in signing bonuses (think Kalil, Williams, Davis, Moore, Beason, among others) someone is going to be on the short end of the stick. Moore could have a good year and still end up being signed and traded.

At the end of the day, I'm pulling for the best QB to win the job, but on a personal level I hope that's Matt Moore. I've met him face to face on two occasions now and he's one of the nicest guys you could hope to meet.

Really? ... At the end of the day? ;)

Hopefully this will motivate Moore rather than just piss him off. I'd like for Clausen to never have to take a snap for us because Moore becomes the guy at QB, but part of me doubts it'll play out that way.

Either way I like the move to add Clausen. If nothing else it should push Moore to be better.

wouldnt it be awesome if moore was the next tom brady?

fug it, im calling it now.

Don't mean to burst your bubble, but that's just wishful thinking. I have seen enough of Moore (and some of his "lame" looking passes) to know that he isn't the next Brady, or anything really that close. Now, is he an apt game manager who is better than post-Tommy-John Jake? Hell yeah! But, up to this point I don't even know if he is better than pre-Tommy-John Jake. He probably isn't, considering the contract extension that Jake got last year.

Moore ascended to a three-legged, unsteady throne because of the unexpected demise of Jake Delhomme. If I were a betting man, I would put my money on Clausen becoming the heir apparent after propping the throne up with skills that are unmatched, and undeniable, and ultimately ushering in happiness and peace to our teal and black kingdom.

Quoted from the article:

“So you’ve just got to go out and perform because if you’re not performing they’re going to put somebody in there who is.’’

That’s a very healthy approach. If Moore goes out and has a strong training camp and preseason, he’ll be the starter. The Panthers liked what he did at the end of last season and want to give him a chance. He needs to keep this attitude and do all the things he’s saying and things will work out for him. The alternative is for him to go into a pout, the way Chris Weinke did back when the Panthers brought in Jake Delhomme. Weinke never stopped pouting and that’s a big part of the reason why he never really got back on the field.

We've never really heard this before that I can recall.

Weinke actually did get back on the field, but only when the team had little choice.

Clausen is the future here and thats even if Moore does well. Now if he does something crazy and leads the team to an NFCC, thats another story, but that is wishful thinking. You dont try to trade up into the 1st round to get a QB if you are not planning on him being there the next decade. Talent wise it really isnt a comparison, Clausen is the more naturally gifted passer but it all comes down to winning. If Moore wins, and looks good doing it, he will stay.
