The mostly likely scenario for us  moving up would be if Sanders or Ward is available when it comes to our time to pick.  Unlikely, but possible.

I feel we're in a good spot for a trade. Teams may want to jump the Saints for the best offensive player on the board

I'm not against trading back but I really can't make a prediction until after free agency.  Mock drafts are fun but mostly are pure speculation.  Outside of a trade we won't really know the direction of the draft until we fill some of our needs in free agency.

I believe we are going to stress defense in free agency, especially the defensive line.  Morgan has stated that the trenches are the foundation to a good team.  We addressed the O-line last year this year we'll address the defensive line. 

If we can address many of our needs through free agency than our options to trade down goes up.  we'll find out in 10 days when Free Agency starts.

BPA is not a reasonable approach on its own.  BPA of your top 5 needs is much more realistic.  IF an elite prospect is there at #8 that fits BPA of our top 5 needs (EDGE, DL, S, CB, LB or TE) then I am all for staying - otherwise trade back to the teens.  Looking at picks values it is absolutely realistic to trade down to 12-18 and pick up 40-50 in compensation.  You do that and walk out of the first 2 rounds with an EDGE, DL, and S and we are in the playoffs next year.

Do a couple of realistic trade back options in the simulators. You always end up happier than sticking and picking.  Not to mention you usually end up still with the guy you wanted. We're just in a bad spot.

Can't decide until we know who is available. No one thought Brown would be there at 8 but he was. There are  several players that if they are available at 8 we jump on it. But if someone wants to jump up and we like the compensation, then it depends on how far back we have to fall and who do we miss out on by waiting.

Big assumption these guys will be that great to propel us into the playoffs. Most rookies struggle like Brown did. No if you want playoffs you need vets with draft picks as backups while they learn to make the leap to the NFL

I really don't see anybody that any team is going to go crazy for to trade up for. Lord knows I've been wrong before,  although i just don't see it.

100% agree - this is why I have been so adamant about it.  Looking at pick value charts and doing probably 100 mock draft simulations on 4 different sites I believe it is a very reasonable possibility.

That's actually not necessary though - that is exactly my point.  I'm not assuming they are great - just above average.  If we go after a top WR or TE we will see a minor/decent upgrade to our WAR.  But our defensive deficiencies are so bad that if we draft 3 defenders in the top 54 and they are just very good we will see a very significant improvement in our WAR.  Improving our offense will get us 2-3 more points per game, improving the defense saves us 8-10 a game.  The opportunity is that different.  Scoring 30 points a game doesn't matter when your defense gives up 31/game. 

Detroit was the only team in the NFL who average more than 31/game on offense.  We aren't 2-3 players away from that on our offense.  We are easily 3 players away from 23/game given up which would take us from last in the league to just below average.

The are only 3 blue chip players in this draft and they are Carter, Graham and Hunter. If one of those 3 are there you take them. Other than those 3 you will have to decide between Tet, Warren or Walker/Starks/? although I would not choose Warren under any circumstances.
