Given the choice (#2)...

Mr. Scot

your crazy, Moore hasn't done crap in any real game. If we compare this preseason game, you can't tell me Jarrett doesn't beat out Moore

That's the kind of logic that kept another Moore on the bench.

Huge KM fan and I completely agree. I see KM as the #3 WR type, which he should be fine at.

Agreed. I think LaFell is exactly the type of No. 2 receiver this team needs, which would allow Moore to play the slot (or work outside occasionally so that Smith can play the slot).

Unless I missed it, all LaFell did was run a single endaround last night. He has yet to show anything to back practice hype. We will see what the next game brings.....

Jarrett on the other hand, 2 looks, 2 grabs, only WR to get open and make grabs w/ the starters (sure one was called back but that is irrelevant in evaluating his play b/c it was a bogus call).

He blocked the best out of the receivers IMO, was only thrown to once. Some people say he should have caught it, and maybe so, but the defender had his hand all on it so...

The end around he did run, he put his head down and wasn't afraid to stick to the defenders! Picked up six yards, not bad.

DJ did look good last night although I'm still trying to figure out why he left his feet to catch the one pass from Moore, he almost dropped it when it hit his hip but at least he caught it!

The Panthers played so many receivers last night that each respective receiver's opportunities were limited. However, when you got the opportunity, you needed to make plays.

KM and DJ did that.

LaFell was a mixed bag.

Gettis should have kept his feet in bounds. He was targeted 5 times and only caught 1 pass.

AE looked awful. He was targeted 9 times and only caught 2 passes.

I though Jarrett looking great last night. Probably the best WR of the night. He catches everything thrown his way. Sure he is a bit slow, but he makes up for it with his hands and his big body squares defenders from the play like Antonio Gates does. He plays like a basketball player. I'd give Jarrett the #2 job if we are only basing it on the first game. LaFell didn't get many opportunities, but he didn't capitalize on that jump ball.

My prediction is we keep both Moore and Jarrett on the 53 man roster. Gettis get's moved to Practice Squad, no doubt in my mind. Edwards will stay only because we have a high pick invested in him.. and his potential. But he looked like garbage out there. Hopefully he can get better as a returner, but he looked extremely indecisive in his returns.

I'm not going to pass judgment on LaFell for one preseason game, just as I'm not going to reserve judgment on Jarrett for his three years here.

Ugh, jarrett seems to be a better blocker..so i'll say him. But there was a time during the two min. drill were he obviously didn't know wtf was going on.

That's my biggest worry about Jarrett.

Mental mistakes by receivers cause a lot of turnovers, and those drive killing penalties from last year's Patriot game are still fresh in my mind, bolstered by the story of him lining up wrong in training camp and prompting a jeer from Jon Beason.

If we keep Jarrett we're basically stashing two receivers for the future, as LaFell and Jarrett are in the mix for #2. We also pretty much have to carry 6 WR into the season, as Smith, LaFell, Edwards and Wright are locks. Soo:

Smith

Jarrett

Moore

LaFell

Edwards

Wright

Cut Jarrett, and we can carry 5 but have to hope that LaFell pans out:

Smith

LaFell

Moore

Edwards

Wright

Gettis is PS bound no matter what.

Just IMO, LaFell is a better blocker with worse hands but better separation and speed. I'd cut Jarrett and go with 5 WR, as I don't think you really lose out on anything. But who knows, maybe Jarrett really does catch on this year and turns out to finally be a contributor.

I do think he's gone either way at the end of the season.

Poor Charly Martin I really liked that guy even though he hadn't done anything. But he is all but cut at this point. I think Gettis and Dexter Jackson are definitely gone unless they post 100+ receiving games in the next three games.

This is how are receiving plays out:

1. Smith

2. Lafell

3. Moore

4. Wright

5. Edwards

The only way I see us keeping Jarrett is if we can't find a viable trade option. We aren't going to cut him, but I have no doubt we will be looking to trade him if he doesn't have a superb preseason.

    • It goes deeper than that for me. When I started watching the Panthers as a kid I fell in love with Mark Fields’ story during that SB run. He wore #58. Then TD wore it and kept the tradition of the being the soul of the Panthers. The next time someone wears #58 I hope brings that same spirit
    • T-Mac is a nickname, Tet is a shortening of Tetairoa. Like you said below... your name is Jonathan, I could see "Jonny" being considered a nickname, but Jon isn't a nickname, it's a shortening of Johnathan, see the difference? And if your mom named you Jonathan for it's biblical significance/meaning, because she was very religious, I think it would be different. T-Mac is Polynesian, so much in their culture has deeper meaning for them, particularly names.  So for his mom to feel this way, I highly doubt it's just because she likes the name Tetairoa and not Tet, it's much more likely than not to be because the name itself has a deeper meaning in their culture.   Particularly as T-Mac himself has often talked about how much his Polynesian heritage means to himself and his family. And no, I'm not saying all this because of how much he's my guy, if he was just "normal american" and his name was Jonathan and he didn't like fans calling him Jon, I'd probably just say tough poo.  It's that he's Polynesian and I know things like names have a much deeper meaning in their culture than they do in ours for the most part. For whatever it's worth, a quick google search.......
