If Fox is Gone Next Year, How Would You Feel about an In-House Hire?

All of that being said, I've been thinking lately... With all the supposed rave reviews that Meeks has been getting for our defense's progress and performance since he's been here, would you be in favor of him being Fox's successor? He wasn't nearly as acclaimed in his coaching gigs prior to coming here... In fact, the Colts were known for their soft defense and being poor annually. I made this thread with mainly Meeks in mind with all the attention and love he's been getting recently, and it just seems like people have forgotten that he was supposedly not even our 1st choice for DC, and how much of a joke most of this board felt the hire was b/c of his Colts' defenses.

the colts fielded soft/weak defenses long before meeks got there.

i'm all for meeks being hc based on what he's been able to do with what he has in carolina, which is far more talented than in indy.

Meeks is now working for a team that puts more emphasis on defense. If you look at our top draft picks under Fox, a higher percentage of them have been on the defensive side of the ball, whie Indy's picks have been more balanced or slightly favoring the offense. So he probably is working with more defensive talent in Carolina than he was at Indy.

Please god no retreads. I'd prefer Meeks for an in house hire at this point, but I don't think that Davidson is as bad as some people make him out to be. I think when you watch the offense as a whole, it's not that stale. What gives that impression is the certain situational play calling (3rd and long draws and whatnot) that give people that impression, but I personally believe that is the "Fox" effect more than anything else.

nah he wasn't.

he was on track to be a headcoach when he was defensive coordinator for the raiders before he melted down and left the team in the preseason.

the casual fan (in deference to you) might not have known him, but he was a known commodity in league circles.

also if you hire meeks, davidson won't hang around. He's got a job next year if he wants it.

If we're hiring someone with fox's system why not just keep Fox?

If we let fox go it should be for the chance to change the team's philosophy. If we want a tough defense, ball control team then fox is the best guy out there for it.
