Are we worrying about the wrong thing?

Last year preseason, the theme was OMG.. We have no DT's and only one DE who only plays half the time so thats like have 1/4 of a DE. We are going to be horrible on defense. Ron Meeks is a horrible DC etc... However it turned out the offense was horrible, or a least turnover prone. Somehow Ron Meeks got the D playing well, and low and behold we have the 8th ranked Defense at years end.

Will it be the exact opposite this year? The theme this preseason has been OMG we can't move the ball. Moore sucks, Claussen sucks, every WR not named Steve Smith sucks and our OL couldn't keep Taylor Swift from sacking our QB. However the defense looks good. Do you guys think that there is a possibility of a role reversal once the season start? Discuss....

I think the running game will bring it at first, obviously, but the passing game may take a game or two to gel. Once we start rolling though, I believe that both sides of the ball will be the hungriest football team out there. Maybe a little biased, but I think we are in for a surprise...could be wrong though, just have a feeling.

666th post...heheh:devil:

I think the concerns about the offenses inability to move the ball through the air are legitimate. Having Steve Smith out there will make a difference, but it can't all hinge on one guy.

Not saying that it's a good idea, but I'm pretty sure that's how they rolled in 2005, and I daresay that Williams/Stewart/Sutton/Goodson-Vaughan >>>>>> than Davis/Foster/Goings/Robertson.

I don't really get that comparison. In the preseason, overall the defense played like doody. The passing game didn't really look all that sharp.

In the regular season, the defense played like doody and the passing game wasn't sharp until the end of the season. Anybody that said we sucked was right. It took the team 11 games to start playing well.

The 09 preseason pretty much predicted the 09 regular season. Doesn't usually happen that way but last year it did.

i dunno, an interesting thought though. i strongly believe our defense will be good. they could have been good last season from the start had the offense not turned the ball over so much. which i think will strongly apply to this season. if our offense or special teams continues to turn the ball over, our defense will suffer as the season wears on.

    • If you need someone to run your multi-billion dollar business, maaayyyybe don't hire a guy whose previous work experience includes repeated blows to the head and literal brain damage but IDK.
    • Extrapolate that with every QB for that matter. I guarantee you there's quite a bit of missed opportunities and yards left on the field for everyone. Many NFL QBs deal with WRs not putting in A+ effort, subpar o-line play and other deficiencies. The great ones are able to rise above these issues and create opportunities for plays. Guys like Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes can both play in and out of structure, as well as find ways to get yards when things break down and mask mistakes by throwing guys open, creating opportunities from nothing, etc. Bryce Young has only shown he's able to make things happen when the rest of the team picks up his slack. Very rarely does he create those opportunities himself. When this is a consistent pattern year after year with Bryce where he shows up lackluster, it's a concern. This is year three and he should be elevating the team as a first overall pick this franchise traded up for.  He was far from elevating anyone against JAX. In fact, he needed others to elevate and create for him. Excuses may be fine for a rookie, but this is year three for the first overall pick. Not looking good so far.
    • I think the worst issue is coaching. Countless bad snaps, XL not getting his feet in or trying on runs plays, our centre being down field when he didn't need to be. All seem to be from poor coaching for me. I believe Canales is to soft to rip the players a new one when the fug up. Plus I honestly believe that Canales is slow getting his plays in giving Bryce less time to diagnose and adjust to the defence. Don't worry I could of head butted Bryce for that fumble and the 4th down throw aways but the other plays are explainable to me
