WR, DE, DT or CB?

What would you draft in the first round?

DT is about the rawest and shallow position on the team, yes they are overachieving a lot this year in run defense... but maybe thats because of how easy it is to pass when you have 2 players on the defensive line over achieving on stopping the run and ignoring the pass? Look what Gerald McCoy did for Tampa's pass rush.

If you go DE, you have 3 other players with high-picks invested in currently on your roster, but you get more pressure on the QB in 3rd and long (something we are sadly having trouble with). You could also try to bring in a FA.

If you go WR you have another weapon to help progress your sophomore QB with and something to replace your aging... and only star at the position... sadly you spent a pick last year on WR and a 2nd round pick this year. Again, you will have FA options here, look how important Vincent Jackson is to San Diego this year even though he is holding out.

Lastly, you could go CB in the first if Marshall walks, this would be my least favorite because.. well... really... there is no reason NOT to go FA here if you just invest a first round draft pick into DE.

Sad, talking draft in September.

We're 0-2, not 0-7.

Let's give these guys a shot to turn it around. They are profesionals and get paid a $h** ton of money to play this game.

I'm not saying were going to win a ton of games, but giving up after week two is pretty pathetic.

I wouldn't draft a WR in the 1st, 2nd or 3rd round... takes too long to develop and we need help now. I would much rather see us trade picks for a proven commodity at WR then see us spend picks on one, especially since we're going young at QB and our best WR is on the wrong side of 30.

We need the most help at DT in my opinion. At good DT will make a CB better, it works the other way around as well (coverage sack) but it more frequently works from the DT making the CB better side of the equation (more pressure up front = less time in coverage). A good penetrating DT also makes the DE's better because it forces the QB out of the pocket and sets the DE's up for the sack.

I'm a Tarheel, so I'm hoping all this NCAA stuff with Marvin Austin causes him to slip down the draft boards right into our hands. I'd say we take the Tampa approach and draft two quality DT's to shore up our defense.

If we're pretending that we couldn't get players in FA, then I say WR, although I would rather find a proven veteran than an unproven rookie to help the young QB.

We need OL depth, but I would say CB. Marshall looks bad this year and we're getting exposed in the secondary, the guys upfront are doing well.

Was thinking about this last night.

WR or CB, depending on who's there. We're pretty hardcore about BPA.

WR: Easy answer as Smith is getting older and we haven't seen anything from the rookies that would suggest a possible #1 down the road. But, we just drafted 3 of them and they might want to ride Smith one more year to see what develops.

CB: Marshall is probably gone and isn't looking too hot anyhow. Captain is fine for a nickle but he's pretty much always going to get exposed against tall receivers/jump balls. Gamble is good, not great.

Also depends on who our coach will be. I do think they'll trade back and try to grab a 2nd somehow.

I am not really worried to much about defensive ends, at least not at this point. We are still very young at DE, and there is some potential.

Wouldn't waste it on a WR, I would try to rectify that situation through free agency.

Better defensive line play would help the secondary a lot, so I would prefer to pick a defensive tackle that could collapse the pocket, and stop the run.

I'm actually thinking LB or OL... Just because we need to solidify those positions. The drop off in talent and production is almost scary on the line, and everybody was scared shitless when T-Dav went down again. Thankful Beason moving to the outside and Connor stepping up on the inside has worked out. I'm not a big fan of James Anderson or Jamar Williams. They've been pretty good so far tho.

I think you go DT with the first pick. The defense will be strong for years. Brown, Hardy, and Norwood will develop to into pretty good players so I think you can rule out DE. LaFell, Edwards and Gettis will also get better so unless a stud WR falls to us I don't see that happening. CB maybe a possibility. With the way Gross is playing tackle might be an option too.

      In your opinion. What do you think Moton's true value in contract, dollars and guarantees? If we had not extended him, what is your plan for RT in 27 and 28? How important are good offensive linemen for our current offense? How much value do you put on protecting Bryce at this stage of his career? How difficult in general do you think finding above average tackles in the NFL is?

      The Falcons have 2 significant offensive line injuries to start the 2025 season. Hopefully the depth we think we have at Oline either shines through or isn't needed. Many other teams are in a bad spot with their offensive lines before the season even starts. For once, we aren't in that situation.

      That roster was billed as a super smart and strong unit for a young QB….until he sucked though.   it didn’t have superstars but it had proven vets that checked well all the safe boxes and it was universally agreed the Panthers were putting him into position to succeed. BY just doesn’t fit a traditional O because he isn’t built like a traditional QB.  And he still doesn’t.   CJ Stroud would have had more success here than Bryce with that cast.   CJ just has the tools that fit the NFL more easily.  Young can find success but I have always argued it would take a Bryce centric plan (which we have never attempted IMO)
