Biggest offseason mistake...

Mr. Scot

Recommended Posts

We actually paid one 12 million and booted him off the team.

I would have loved to keep Jake on as a 3rd QB, even at 12 mil (we have to pay it anyway) but the team would not have accepted it. When MM and Clausen started looking like poo Jake would have been called upon, and that aint good for the long run.

Would have loved to bring in Pennington or someone like him to help them out a bit.

u really think john fox would have made jake the 3rd qb if we kept him? I doubt that.

Probably not because it meant Pike would have been put on the practice squad and Cincy would have picked him up. Still Clausen appears to need someone to help him figure it out. He would be too competitive and arrogant to listen to Moore for example.

I still think our OLine is taking a huge hit due to our offensive philosophy and playcalling..

you put 2 WRs out there with the defense blitzing and expect the OLine to hold up long enough for 2 receivers to get open.. no use of a TE.. and no use of our RBs out of the backfield.. and Otah is out.. can't be good, especially for an OLine who takes a while to gel.

I don't really feel there was an offseason mistake.. replace the coaching staff is the offseason mistake.. however, it wasn't the wrong move with a possible lockout..

the best thing for our offense was another WR to open the field up with a REAL threat and help us get through this season with more weapons... while locking up a true #1 for years down the road.. while allowing the rookie WRs to develop without sacrificing threats on the field..

we are a year away from a lockout and there isn't a real right answer.. just a f**ked up situation..

Otah needs to get back.. we can make better assumptions about the RG position at that point..

MrScot nails it again!!! However, we should have went after a DT or DE in the draft intead of AE, especially after losing Peppers. Also keeping Kasay around, (God bless him he has done so much for this team.) Requires us to carry a KOS and use a roster spot, that could be used to develop depth at corner, DT, WR or OL.

As far as a FA WR is concerned, JR was not going to add a high priced FA at any position. Wouldn't surprise me that once DJ is cut, we bring back K. Moore.

However, great post as always!

i'm still thinking that a vet WR that actually knows what he's doing would have helped out a lot. it would have helped the OLine as well.

why is it that we have so many defenders rushing in consistently? because they have nothing to fear from our WRs. you can now feel comfortable only putting one defender on each WR and then blitz everyone in. that is going to shut down every phase of the offense more than it already is.

clausen doesn't have anyone to throw to. the other teams know this. until a couple WRs can get some separation, this is going to continue to be the case. i don't care who you put in with the big uglies. 5 cant stop 9 or 10 from rushing in.

It seems to me it's much deeper than just this year.

The decision to keep Peppers in 2009 caused the domino effect on the OL backups (Hangartner and the guy who is currently in Chicago) to be not affordable, and then extending Delhomme, and so on and so forth.

The other thing that is troubling and I've said it numerous times before, Otah, is not now nor is he going to be, a reliable 16 game starter at RT. It is simply physically not going to happen. A 24 year old with a shot meniscus is not a bet for longer term success at that position. Add to it, Gross is not the same after that leg break and here we are

Add to it as well, the inability of the Panthers to ever have a short to intermediate passing game since Fox has been here, plus, wasting time on Jarrett and Keary Colbert before him, and it's not difficult to read.

Might as well add Edwards to this list...quite a reach, giving up a #2 for a #3 that they probably could've gotten in the 5th round.

This season is toast and 12 more games of the Fox era. It's time for a change.
