Your ideal season end

Revisiting a topic we've done once before under Fox...

Which outcome would you prefer for the remainder of the Panthers season?

A) Go on a run and make it to the playoffs by the skin of our teeth

B) Make at least a somewhat respectable showing by winning a decent number of games

C) Completely tank and get the highest draft pick possible

Point of Clarification: By "tank", I don't mean deliberately lose. I mean everyone doing the best they can, but the team still losing.

(in other words, what's been happening for the first five weeks) :(

Fox fired directly after the last game, Cowher hired directly after Fox's firing, and #1 pick, oh yeah, find a way to get back the 2nd round draft choice, Hurney gave away for Edwards.

That isn't one of your selections.

This season is history. Winning one or two more games doesn't mean much in the greater scheme of things. I know 'you play to win the game'. Reality is, Fox has checked out mentally and it won't be long before the players follow suit.

It's a double-edged sword. Fox generally wins enough to keep us out of the basement, but an occasional trip to the basement can get you some decent players. Staying in the middle tends to get you good players, but not necessarily star players.

I know a lot of folks are expecting the number one pick now, but we've been in that position more than once and instead wound up with a pick in the teens.

to be honest, I could live with any of those depending on player performances. I really don't think A is possible, but if it were, I'd love it... and no, I don't think it means John Fox comes back. Between B and C, it really depends. Does our QB step up and put up strong numbers through the rest of the season, whoever it might be? Do we end up with a legit #2? Does our O-line solidify?

I love to see the Panthers win, but when they don't, I like to see player improvement. To me, #3, which may be best for the long term health of the team, is my least favorite option because it likely means our players are not developing well and our team is struggling in at least one major phase tremendously, which I hate to see.

I just want to see some wins. The Panthers are the only sport team I truly consider myself a devoted fan of. I want wins, playoffs, etc. I understand the whole "We can get the first pick in next year's draft" philosophy, but that's a piss poor way to support your team. I'm rooting that these guys win on Sundays and become more of a team. Fox is gone, that's 110% certain, so I'm focused on watching these guys develop chemistry and become at least a decent squad.

C. by far and its not even close for me. Ya it sucks to sacrifice this season but in the end it would end up being one of things that for the team long term. I want to see alot of changes this offseason and I think the more losses we have the better the odds of us making changes in every category from coaching staff to overall roster.

A.is next to impossible so no sense in that even being list as an option. just a pipe dream at this point and if we create that miracle I think we'd lose in the first round anyway and end up with low round draft pick that has less of a chance at being a franchise player

    • WR: Nico, Woods, Tank (R) TE: Schultz OL: Tunsil/Howard/Deiter/Mason/Fant vs. WR: Chark, Thielen, Mingo (R) TE: Hurst OL: Icky/Zavala (R)/Bozeman/Jensen (R)/Moton   Panthers' had the better OL before losing BC week 1 and AC week 4 which is kind of ironic considering how in the following year DB went down in W1 and Shaq in W4 resulting in the defense going all to Hell. CJ has done amazing in Houston, but he also wasn't asked to carry Zavala, Jensen, Mingo, Hurst, and Chark as a rookie.
    • Past 5 seasons, IMO CJ Stroud and Joe Burrow are the 2 best young QBs that have emerged in the league in that window.  They also didn’t need vets to be their primary pass catchers.  They helped fellow youngsters be great at WR.   almost all the other young QBs have been paired up with vets in their top options….and haven’t been as promising.  so it isn’t Madden.  But the league hasn’t played out as you suggest it does.   Good QBs make others around them better.
    • In 2023 their roster wasn’t stacked. They nailed the poo out of the 2023 draft and since they knew Davis Mills wasn’t the guy, they tanked properly to get pick 2. They also took Cleveland’s ridiculous offer for Watson unlike us with Burns. Houston received enough draft capital to jump up to 3 while picking up the right guys in Anderson and Stroud. The Texans were not stacked or better than us in 2023. They had 11 total wins from 2020 to 2022. They didn’t have a terrible front office so they made sure they got their QB of the future while tanking well and getting more draft picks. They are a textbook study of what we should have done in 2022/2023 offseason even though people in here still think tanking is a bad word and our culture would be bad if we were the Texans. We literally had the chance to be the Texans right now and fuged it up.
