Fox blames himself

"I don't think anyone on this team is going to quit, and I don't think coach Fox is going to quit on us," center Ryan Kalil said. "He's somebody who obviously, this hasn't been the most ideal situation, the most ideal season, but he's somebody who genuinely cares about his players and his coaches.

"I don't think anyone in this building would ever take a day off, regardless of the circumstances."

Fox's contract expires at the end of the season, and he hasn't been offered an extension. He knows he's leaving, they know he's leaving, and the only question was when. Recent blame-deflecting gestures (the "personnel department" comments the most recent) have muddied what's been a solid run for Fox here.

Beason said Fox still had control of the locker room, even if it's full of players Fox may not have preferred. Asked if he was still the right coach for the team considering its construction, Kalil spoke about the natural adjustment considering all the young players they're breaking in at once this year.

On Monday, I asked Fox if cutting Delhomme, now a backup in Cleveland, was the right move given the team’s instability at the quarterback position. With Matt Moore on injured reserve and Jimmy Clausen out, the Panthers were forced to start Brian St. Pierre, a guy they picked up off the street 10 days prior to the game, against Baltimore. St. Pierre threw two interceptions that were returned for scores.

“Looking back, sitting here at 1-9, I’m not sure how many moves were right,” Fox said before quickly adding, “and that’s not being critical of anybody. (It’s) just hindsight, which is always 20-20. But I know Jake seems to be happy where he is and sometimes change is good. I don’t believe in looking back.”

at first it sounded like another criticism of the FO (which it still may have been).

    • You’re playing madden we’re talking real football stuff…. He does have you seen his special on internet he def thinks he’s getting paid
    • Without the team having an identity kinda hard to predict what they value.  They either are really trying to build a balanced team, or preparing for another swing at qb if Bryce doesn’t pan out. Seems like we value the o line but the $ spent there has been underwhelming besides Lewis, you could say it’s because of injuries but still hasn’t been worth the investment. as already stated, the whole handling of Bryce young as a whole has been ass backwards, we spent the years we’re supposed to take advantage of having a qb with a lower cap hit, building the team up to be adequate. now It appears, key word appears, the saints have done it correctly, which is painful to even think about. Regardless, I hope the front office has paid attention to qb contracts recently, such as Tua, Kyler, Daniel jones(pre colts) and don’t settle for subpar qb play at franchise qb rates
    • This is the flaw in your logic.  Cutting 3 of our best players will somehow move us from whatever we are to "compete". Even the most Young super fans are not predicting a ceiling above top 10-12, and that will not nearly cut it.  Someone will need to break the log jam of QBs getting nothing or North of 50. Our qb is at best a middle ground, lets hope it will be us that also manage to pay the worth at about 100 over 3 years.  And before you jump me, yes that is only of he improves.
