Matt Maiocco has us taking Newton # 1 overall

if Newton is worth it, he's worth it. i'd bet Shula, Chud, Hurney and possibly even Rivera are going to sit down with him and watch him throw and drop back, get a feel for how he processes information, etc. i hiiiiighly doubt that anybody employed by the Panthers knows right now who they're going to draft at #1.

Clausen has played in pro games and has had moments even if he's not great.

Stick any college kid - Newton, Luck, Gabbert, any of 'em - in the starting lineup of a pro game right now and they'd fold like an accordion.

Regarding Pike, I think we still don't know about him. You just can't reliably judge by last season.

Sheer speculation there. They would prob fair just as well as clausen, some better because of athletisim. Clausen was not given much help last year and was not athletic so he responded accordingly.

they would fail miserably without at least some NFL experience.

people have unrealistic expectations for rookies after Matt Ryan/Joe Flacco and now Bradford. rookie QB's are usually bad, and if we drafted Newton or Gabbert they would more than likely be just as bad as Clausen or any other rookie thrown onto a horrible offense.

Arguably the top 5 QBs in today's NFL, in no particular order:

Brady

Manning

Brees

Rodgers

Rivers

All of these QBs are accurate passers, none of them are known for being overly mobile. Definitely not runners, and Manning and Brady are downright slow.

If we take Newton at #1, I will pee on Hurney's head.

What if.....we draft Newton #1.....Jimmy starts and is as badd as last year.....Jimmy gets injured in say game 4.... Cam comes in and finishes season and looks as bad as Jimmy....

we still take Luck #1 next year?

Yep!! If Luck is as good as they say he can be you still do it.

    • It appears that he sees things differently than the QB and OC, so Cam's advice is spot on. It isn't about number of targets, it's about quality of targets. Trust and being on the same page. BY doesn't know how to anticipate what XL is doing. And XL doesn't like where BY is placing passes. One on one film study would go a long way. More for BY than XL though. He has to adjust to XL. I really don't think XL can adjust on the fly.
    • If the team shows improvement, then he shouldn't be in danger of losing his job - even if the record doesn't reflect. This was a very young team (with a lot of new vet starters) that overperformed last season. Somebody's doing something right. Consistency is key with so much youth. And we're potentially looking at new starters at ILB and FS. Those are positions that take time to fully understand the defense. ILB calls the front 7. Safety calls the back 4. Injuries at WR and IOL killed the offense last season. Depth needs to be upgraded. Same with Edge. I think they would have won more games if Pat Jones doesn't go down early. Be smart with the roster and draft. Trade players for assets when it's time to pay them more than they're worth - yes, that includes BY if he doesn't make a pretty big jump. That's one of the many reasons Tillis is as important as anyone to the future of this team.
    • He had heart surgery a while back he looks Fraile I hope he is okay
