Are we ALL homers or....

Does the media have no clue about our team? I know that seems like the obvious choice but we are going to get a ton of press over the next few months bc of our first overall pick. I listened to the NFLN guys (Trent Green) talk about how much help we need at several positions. He talked about how we needed a LOT of players and that QB would not be a good choice.

In my opinion I don't see how we are that far off but maybe we are all too blind to see past our favorite team. I feel like we are solid at offensive line (assuming kalil is back), running backs, linebackers(assuming Davis and Anderson are back), defensive ends (assuming Johnson is back), and kickers. I think we are ok right now at wide receiver and safety and probably don't need to upgrade just yet (unless it's AJ Green). I think we are average but need a few new pieces at corner and tight end. So that leaves only DT's (we need two) and a QB. Obviously we can fill one of those positions with the first pick then draft some depth at the other positions. Also (if there is a FA) we can fill some holes through free agency as well.

Our defense and special teams are good and if our offense gets much better QB play I feel like we are a decent team. Maybe not a playoff team just yet but I don't think we are as far off as some people indicate. Honestly I feel like our two biggest obstacles next year will be playing in such a tough division and learning a new system.

How do you guys feel about our current situation and the potential to get better this offseason?

I think we are only 3-5 players away. Which can be easily fixed this off season if the right choices are made. The biggest obstacle for the Panthers is getting used to a new coaching staff. And that might be why most media is already writing us off, that and coming off a 2-14 season and thinking that represents the true team. We may be homers but we also know, or most of us know...we are not that bad.

I hate when people say things like that.. How in the world could quarterback be among the positions of least need?? If those guys watched our games last year, they would understand that its REVERSE and that QB is probably number 1 or 2 need!

dumb asses..

unless j-claw shows serious improvement early, we're going to need a qb or 2 to at least compete for the job. Scracth that, we ARE going to get at least one more qb..

What everybody fails to realize on the outside is this team desperately needs a QB..... I dont understand how they can talk so much about other teams in Top 5 or 10 that do, etc.... but the Panthers , no they need to not take one. If it turns out that Cam or some other guy cant be the guy, then the Panthers will be looking for a long term solution at QB again next year. Unless of course Clausen pans out, but I would much rather have it be Clausen, Cam and bring in some Veteran now.

Naa, the media really doesn't know their poo. They all make assumptions like bottom of the league -> many needs or lack of pass rush -> needs a DE. There's a reason why only a small amount of writers such as Gantt and Kirwan ever get us to nod our head. It's not like they're over-optimistic homers, they just do their research. Guys when it comes to anything logical, listen to your own read and only take in things that sound logical to you. fug what the masses say.

Sure, we may only be 3-5 starting players away from contending in our division, but that's a long way to go when they're positions like QB and DT...

Still, crazy turnarounds are not out of the realm of possibility. Worse teams than ours have rebounded pretty quick, so I think it's possible.

Without a QB we are nothing other than a team that could make a one year miracle run like we did in 2003.

As for the media, just think about ANY year. The media NEVER gabs on and on about a team...they gab on and on about a player. And since there is no superman out there, there's not much to say. Had Luck come out, you'd be getting the talk you desire. It's not a knock on us, it's a knock on this year's Draft.

I mean, how much did you hear about St. Louis last year? Exactly. You heard about Bradford.

When it's something of your own you tend to be more optimistic about it, when it's something you don't possess or have any interest in you can see flaws more easily.

(At least until you get mad at it then you can see the same flaws as everyone else & sometimes more.)

That's the worst thing right now about the CBA. In years past we would start to know what our team will look like by now with contract extensions and the upcoming free agency. This year, who knows. If we lose Johnson, Dwill, Smith, Kalil, then yeah we in need of 6 or 7 starters.

    • Not sure why everyone keeps talking about the Panthers paying him $50M/year. I don't recall anyone EVER saying he deserves that. I think something like what the Dolphins signed Malik Willis to would be good: 3 years, $67.5M but it will probably be something along the lines of Mayfield or Darnold which is around $35M/year.
    • Actually that 4400 was based on a 16 game season to match Bryce's 16 games this year. Your offense has to be to drive the ball when it matters. Bryce doesn't do that with any level of consistency. If you're building a team that isn't focused on your QB, then fine. Then there's no need to pay Bryce as a franchise QB because literally anyone else will do. If you're going to pay him 50m plus per season, you have to be able to put the team on his shoulders and know he's going to carry the load. So far, when the pressure is on to get it done, Bryce has fallen miserably short of the target. 4-6 to finish out the season and 0-2 when all we need is a win to secure a playoff spot isn't stepping up and proving yourself as a franchise QB. I'd say it's quite the opposite.  There isn't a single coach in this league that would take Bryce over Burrow and very few if any that would take Bryce over Prescott. Hurts didn't have to throw in 2025 because Philly's defense was disgusting and Saquan had a MVP season. But then again, Hurts has shown that he can when it counts, and then there's his signature. Philly runs the tush push to lethal perfection, but that's a play we can't even consider with Bryce. You used 3 QBs from teams that had no defense to show QB stats don't always matter. When we had the worst defense in the NFL, we didn't see Bryce step up and carry the offense and put up gaudy numbers in a losing season because we were playing catch up. It was pretty much the opposite.  What have we seen from Bryce consistently to consider offering him a top 10 NFL franchise QB level contract? At the end of the day, that's all that matters.
    • I mean, what fanbase has high expectations when you have a QB like Bryce leading your team?
