For Yas and others that want a QB

THERE ARE NO QB'S IN THIS DRAFT THAT CAN START NOW!!! Even friggin Andrew Luck would NOT Turn this franchise around in one year and wouldn't do well his first year in the league.

If we want to turn this around NOW, AND build for the future its simple...trade for a Veteran, trade down from one, pick up more picks and take a QB to groom later. Its not rocket surgery folks.

Look offer Washington our 4th rounder which is essentially a 3rd and get mcNabb. Or try for Orton or Kolb, guys that are openly available. Trade down a few spots, get a 2nd rounder back and take a QB. But all this whining and bitching about the QB position is moot with a pick at #1. In fact picking at QB at #1 could stall our return to the playoffs.

First of all we don't have a quarterback on the roster than can start and play at a high level. So we need to upgrade the position in a big way. I agree that we need a veteran who can start. The issue is whether we have another guy who can learn to be the starter. If you think that is Clausen then you pass on a QB. If you don't think he is the one, you go with a rookie like Newton or Gabbart. Don't see why you would want to trade down to pick up a development guy later in the draft who won't play better than Clausen anyway. We aren't going to carry 4 QBs on the roster.

As for extra picks, how often has the team at number 1 been able to trade down in the last 5 years? Without a guy like Luck, that isn't going to happen. We are noy going to get any exta picks.

As this point we have no idea where we would pick next year or who will be available in free agent. We have 2011.

The reality is that these trade down senarios are very unlikely to happen and we will likely get one pick- the first one.

So while it isn't rocket science, it imay not be as simple as you make it out to be.

... Its not rocket surgery folks...

What exactly is this? I've heard "It's not rocket science" or i've heard "It's not heart surgery" but I've never heard of "rocket surgery"...

That being said, rocket science or open heart surgery is probably way easier than fixing our current QB situation which I think is what you meant by comparing it to "rocket surgery"

Those NASA scientist come up with something new everyday

So because there are no QB's in this draft who can play right away, we shouldn't draft one?

If someone told you that in 5 years Cam Newton would be an elite QB (but it would take him 5 years to get to that level) would you still feel that way?

Seeing the future... that sounds more like "rocket surgery"

The plan and goal is to not start Cam or even Clausen for that matter next season. They Panthers are going to try and bring in a Vet no matter what. If Cam can be the man then it makes no sense to pass on him merely because he cant start right away. If even trading for McNabb was possible for a 4th rounder, sure I would do that but it would be nice if he was here mentoring Cam. No way I am trading good picks for Kolb and Orton wont be availble unless for a ransom cause.

The problem with this franchise has been to keep igoring the QB position and not have the guy of the future on the roster and it has bit them in the a**. Instead they would pick a late rd QB here and there hoping they would hit lightning in a bottle. Sorry, time to change that up.

Bring in a Vet, pick Cam at #1 and go with a Vet, Cam, and Clausen as your QB's.

    • Didn't  see this posted (since 2023) but since folks have been posting that you can't judge a draft class for three years (a ridiculous take), I thought I'd post this to see what people thought about the 2023 draft. Unfortunately this may not be the most interesting class to do this with but I do quite like retrospective draft grades. Would appreciate other's takes on this (and other recent) draft classes.   1(1) - Bryce Young QB: I am a bigger Bryce Young apologist than most (maybe all). I like the kid. But there is no way around it: This was a terrible pick. If he had been picked in the 4th or even the 3rd round I would feel pretty good about it. But this was the first overall pick that we gave up two firsts, our best offensive player to get.  GRADE: C -    2(39) - Jonathan Mingo WR: not much to say here here. He was here for two years. His yards per catch are on par with Bryce's yards per pass. Rough stuff. To date he has still never scored a touchdown in the NFL GRADE: F   3(80) - DJ Johnson OLB: a pick I hated as soon as it happened and an example of why the premise of this thread is honestly dumb. This was a bad pick when it happened. Most people knew it.  Then came training camp and he did not look good. Then came the preseason which confirmed what we saw in TC. Then came the season which confirmed what we saw in preseason. To date, he has half a sack in his career. GRADE: F 4 (114) Chandlers Zavala G: Honestly the best pick of this draft which really speaks to how awful this draft is. Other than Bryce, the only pick still on the team. He is mostly average or below average depth which in round 4 is not terrible. But he had a pff score of 43.5 and though I think people have unrealistic expectations for draft picks, I still would want a little more from a fourth round pick GRADE: C+   5 (145) - Jammie Robinson S: I liked the pick when it happened but ended up being a disappointment. He logged 1 tackle with the falcons last year and not enough snaps to get a grade on PFF.  GRADE: F OVERALL DRAFT GRADE: F
