Round 1 - Panthers Select Tetairoa McMillan at Pick 8

Pretty much spot on analysis of the selection.  Maybe he works out but appears super slow quick area speed, and seems like the panthers would have benefited more from the penn te

Biggest reasons I didn't like the pick

1. this draft is super deep at WR.

2. Lost of people including myself had him as the 3rd WR behind Golden and Hunter. No value in the top ten taking Tet.

3. This draft isn't very deep on 3-4 front seven players and could've gotten a high end prospect for a 3-4 front at 8.

He didn't give it to himself. His friends gave it to him.

yeah, that's my point.  His friends gave it to him.  He didn't pick it.  We aren't his friends.

He will be a football player for the Carolina Panthers.  NFL fans likely will appoint him a nickname at some point or maybe they won't.  Nicknames are just weird things.  Some dude was called freaking Cornbread in college.  No one called him that here to my knowledge.

Most of those stats came against significantly weaker players, exactly like I said. Despite the fact that TH covered him more than anyone else, he had only 3 catches for 15 yards against TH. Yes, one of those catches was a TD, on a absolutely perfect pass in a super tiny window because TMac couldn't actually get separation.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Here is every snap, including Hunter getting DPI twice against him. It also shows him getting open regularly and his QB just missing it.

So call him what you want.

To be fair a lot of others had him as the clear cut #1 WR and top 10 overall player.

Yeah, we are going to disagree here.  Thats nonsense

XL made a TON of sense.....because he fit what Canales did in Tampa and Seattle.  And we drafted XL when most folks that Bryce Young era was likely about to end.  Nothing nonsensical about acknowledging what Canales has always been about/around (and how his draft picks fit that)......and how Bryce Young at no point in time when we drafted him was billed for fitting such an offense.   It was all PG quick distributor talk.  Which meant YAC players around him and getting the ball out with his super brain.

XL and Tmac struggle getting open quickly.  They are more suited for a chunk play team that is playing off the run and sets up for WR to have time to get open downfield (which is the Canales tree).  Which is what Canales is basically drafting.

Square peg/round hole.  It's not nonsense.  It's the Tepper era.

Teams are just going to press the fug out of us and simply take away our run game as a result

Highest I've seen him was PFF at 4 which is silly. Didn't see anyone else have a top ten grade on him.

Brugler has him at 12 with him being WR1. I trust his opinion more than most. Picking the 12th best player and top of his position at 8 isn’t that crazy. He actually had him mocked to us in some of his drafts.

I will say this. He fits Dave Canales offense to a T... Which means he doesn't fit what Bryce is historically known for doing well. So even though Bryce asked for him, it's even more evidence that Bryce is going to be expected to run Canales offense from Tampa.

To be clear WR2. Hunter is CB1 but clearly WR1 as well.

But I agree with your sentiment.  Brugler and Mays were talking about him compared to last year and confidently said he would have gone ahead of BTJ, maybe Odunze (or between the two)

    • Canales talks exactly like narcissists talk because they can’t understand how their actions impact other people negatively. They’re describing what they should be feeling or thinking instead of saying it.  if you’ve ever dated one you know exactly what I mean and it’s off putting if you’ve gone through it.  im sure his apology to Izzy sounded like “I never thought you’d be so upset by me masturbating with Brad Idzik during a film session. Again. I thought we had moved past that. In the future, you need to make your displeasure more clear.”
    • I like Chuba as a person. However when we signed him to that extension I said it was a risk because he had his best statistical season while we have invested over the last 2 seasons what is now a league leading amount of money in the offensive line and it's only going to increase with us needing to sign our left tackle to an upcoming extension. We cannot afford all this. Our defense is already amongst one of the lowest invested groups in the league and we expect them to shoulder the burden. As far as Chuba over Rico let's just call it what it is. Our franchise making decisions based on what we've invested in a player instead of doing what's best for the team. We've already been doing this with Bryce Young and we again have one of the league's worst QB rooms. It cannot continue. How many blowout losses can we witness before things like this finally click? Either we begin operating like a serious franchise or we will look up and reach the milestone of being a cellar dweller for 10 consecutive years.
    • They need to be dug up and made into a fan handbook. I'm almost positive there is a gameday monolog for every team in the league. Man I miss old SCP. He was a poet and didn't know it.
