and sounds like one is incoming shortly

Carolina Panthers president of football operations and general manager Dan Morgan joined 99.9 The Fan's The Drive with Tim Donnelly on Wednesday. While chatting about his haul from the 2025 NFL draft, specifically fifth-round pick Lathan Ransom, Morgan was asked if the team is still on the lookout for a free safety.

"Yeah, we're definitely gonna explore some guys that are still out there," he replied. "But drafting a guy like Lathan, I just think he brings that demeanor and that mentality that we're looking for—that physical presence out there, that tone-setter-type mentality.

As for who's out there on the open market, Julian Blackmon and Marcus Williams—both of whom visited with the Panthers back in late March—could still be on Morgan's radar.

Why didnt he just draft one? not that they had to start but paying Moehrig then drafting Random feels redundant

It wasn't a great safety draft but I was disappointed in the type of safety we drafted. I just don't understand why the Panthers have always been caught up in the idea of playing two strong safety types as the league has evolved more and more into a passing league. We're starting to see the running game make a comeback but still, the ball is in the air a LOT more than it was back in the '80s and we have always taken an '80s approach at the safety positions.

Neither option is that great but better than nothing I suppose. Our secondary is still a big question mark. The front 7 better be able to generate pressure or prepare to be the worst defense again this season.

I am thinking they flip where the run D is closer to 23 and the pass D closer to last years 32. I just don't see the pass rush being impressive, especially if they are getting rid of Clowney. Thankfully they were able to keep Jackson but if horn goes down again it could get comical.
