Clowney released

Meh

Surprised they did this. We went from a lack of talent and and young pieces to the exact opposite going into this year. Hopefully these rookies and free agents are ready to play

Why does this team hate Jordan Matthews so much after keeping Ian Thomas around for way too long?

For one thing, he will be 33 in July.  I think they want to go 'full youth' where possible.

I don't mind this move.  If there was a trade, we would have taken it, and that says something.

He has been on, what, 6 teams in 7 years?  There is a reason for that.

I don't remember him from anything he did on the field last year.  What I remember most is him talking a bit about Bryce seemingly as soon as he got off the plane.  I'm not saying what he said was wrong, just not the type of stuff you say when you are new to the team and have a new, young QB trying to make it here.

I wish it were different.  Always like our home grown stories, but Clowney just ain't it.  Good luck elsewhere.

Is that just nostalgia talking?  From what I read, he has been a liability lately on tape.  He has been getting benched if I recall correctly.

I'm not nostalgic towards him, I think he could play fs at this stage of his career

Love this because it eliminates any chance of rushing him back too soon, let him fully rest up and hopefully we have a diamond in the rough being added to the 2026 team.

My one question is why does this mean he'll miss the full season already though?

I thought players get put on the PUP list going into camp all the time without it officially ending their season, why is this different?

No need with Dowdle and Etienne behind Hubbard.

The Panthers should have never let him go....they chose Shaq over him which was a mistake.

We absolutely made the wrong choice there and I was one of the ones screaming that at the time. It's all about positional value.

But Bradberry was never the fastest, twitchiest guy around and he'll be 32 when next season starts. He's probably lost a couple of steps with age and I don't think he's a guy who could afford to lose a couple of steps.

That $7.7 million in cap savings will allow Dan to bring in a CB and FS

His release also opened cap space for the rookies, including UDFAs. I hate it but it’s the nature of the beast and we have a logjam at Edge.

Hopefully we use that money to bolster the backend of the defense somehow

we are thin in a few areas.

I still think they think we are set at edge.  We still have DJ and Barno and one could go to the PS.  Edge is one of those positions, for some reason, where if you do not draft the right guy or break the bank, you gotta go with what you have.  Personally, I think our 2 draft picks will be fine.  SEC kids. Jones and Wonnum are adequate vets who are not so good they will steal playing time from the toddlers.  Three rookies (including Mwansa, who could play special teams while developing as an edge) behind 2 vets is huge, but don't forget, we had a veteran group of DTs, DEs, and LBs.  On the back end of the defense, all veterans (starting) except maybe Ransom.

    • The term you're looking for is "malinger(ed)", and he didn't.  I'm not sure why Panthers fans act like jaded ex girlfriends.  The dude is clearly injury prone as his time in San Fransico also proves. It's not like he got to San Fran and stopped having problems.
    • My long and rambling post:   The guy is all heart, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he came back even better next year. He’s exactly the guy you lock up. The money won’t ever change the way he plays.  It was a big fumble, but what 1,000 yard back fumbles once in an entire season?  Pride. This team is FINALLY seeing guys who obviously take the game very seriously. Hunt, Chuba, Thielen, Brown, Horn (CB), Coker, Bryce (IMHO). Bye bye, Spider-Man. I don’t see these dudes being OK with teammates half-assing practice or in games. I can see Brown and Horn coming over to talk to somebody.  Good team? Ummm, maybe, but will still likely lose more close games than they win unless this last draft turns in to LOB part 2. That’s a stretch.  Pretty good/decent team. Yes. They finished the season as a pretty good team. I know I sound like a broken record harping back to it, but going in to ATL and putting a 40 burger on them en route to an OT win. A bad Panthers team would have had their brakes beaten off. We’ve seen it.  Rose colored glasses on and bonging a 40 of hopium: There are watershed moments that occur that change the course of franchises, both good and bad. If Fox doesn’t pull Rodney at halftime, the epic journey that was 2003 never happens. On the negative side, Cam taking that one hit from Watt was the end of any and all Panthers relevancy and we’ve been the biggest losers in all of pro sports as a result. Watershed moments. LOB draft. Vinny goes down and the goat is born.  Will the ATL game be the spark that this franchise has desperately needed? Could it be that they hit the mega million jackpot with Princley and Scourton as eat QBs for breakfast? Sure would be nice having 2 all-pro edge guys on the cheap for the next 4 years.  A lot of unknowns, but at least it actually feels  fun again.
    • Ok LT and Petersen are a cut above everyone else to me cmc and Faulk are interchangeable on this list.  though Faulk was better career wise
