I really thought this was a nice TC story and nothing more...

But it sounds like Renfrow has a legit chance to not only make the roster but contribute.

Honestly, this is one of the best WR groups we've ever had on paper going into TC.

This group has a diverse skill set, and good mix of established veterans and younger players.

Other than in 2008/2009 when we had Smitty & Moose as our starters (and both were established All Pros at this point), this is as good of a room as i can remember going into a season.

Honestly, if you take Smitty out of the equation, our WR groups overall have been subpar for the most part throughout our history.

I'm not crowning this group before they've proved it on the field, but it's hard to not be excited about this group relative to most years.

I think McMillan, XL, Coker, Theilen, Horn, Renfrow, and JT Sanders is exponentially better than what Bryce had 2 years ago as a rookie (Chark, Mingo, TMJ, Theilen, Hurst).

Im excited to see what Shemar Bartholomew shows in preseason.

He didn't give up a single reception last season in preseason with the Jets.

4 teams put in waiver claims last season- we got him due to sucking and being at the top of the waiver wire, so there were a lot of teams interested.

He played sparingly last season and didn't do anything really of note, but he has a full year now in the Evero system.

Evero as noted is hesitant to play rookies, but now is the time to see what we have.

We desperately need another CB to step up and prove they've earned a depth spot on the roster.

Mike Jackson did very well all things considered, but upgrading CB should still be a priority

Thing with Renfrow is, he didn’t take time off due to a football injury. It’s not like he’s coming back with a bad knee, hip, back or shoulder.

He needs conditioning, but if his UC/Chron’s is well controlled, he should be the same guy from a physical perspective. This bodes well.

Yeah, Smitty/Moose/Proehl is honestly the only legit high level WR corps we've ever fielded. Smitty is by far and away our GOAT WR, Moose is by far and away the #2, DJ Moore is easily the #3 and from there it just falls off a cliff. KB is the only other guy we've ever had who showed promise that he might be a long-term high level starter.

4th best WR all time.....is probably a title held by Ted Ginn Jr.  And tells the story of the Carolina Panthers habitual issue.

Our franchise #6 all-time receiver is a RB who suited up in 58 games over the course of 5 seasons. LOL

There's two TEs and a RB in that top 6.

Nailed it

I looked it up, Mark Carrier seems to be the guy.......I forgot about him..... Then its the one year wonders like rocket and "chosen(lollols)" etc. Lafell and Samuel had decent 4 years.

I swear you can just have one great year or 4 ok ones and you are in the top 10 all-time list.....

DANg tommy tremble and Ian "my god" Thomas are in the top 20 with WRs and I don't need to bring up the suckage stat level of them. awful.

T-Mac about to take that #2 spot form Moose, would love to see him give Smitty a run for his money too, would mean he turned into a HOFer playing almost all, if not his full, career here.

If Thielen can get 919 yards this year, he'll move into 7th all time for us, which would mean 4th highest WR on the list

Tremble is 39th, and Thomas is 25th, but having played in more games than all but 6 players above him on the list

    • I agree.  Some situations are all we should ask--shadow the qb (someone suggested that) or cover a TE, or blitz from the big nickel position.  Forget S, edge, CB,LB--
    • I work with social emotional learning and I don't know why a player with all the tools (to Snow's point) sucks when he was a top 10 player in college.  It is not talent, and it is usually not due to some learning disability-.  It comes down to dispositions or emotions in a lot of cases. The reason I pointed out Simmons in particular is because he was drafted to be a DC's new weapon.  I have friends who played in the NFL and they talk about the amount they throw at you--and those were guys who played 1 position.  Simmons shows his ability on special teams--where you are a bit more turned loose than scripted or forced to read blocking schemes or pass routes, etc.  See ball, get ball.  Simmons has been tried at CB, nickel, S , LB edge and he has had 5 different coordinators if you do not count the STs guy.  This would overwhelm most people.  Nobody knows what it does to your confidence and motivation to go from the best player on your team and a top college player to getting cut.   I just think that players like this can be saved.  To say, "He just isn't good" is not to answer the question, "Why was this not noticed during the interviews?  game film?  Combine?  References?  etc.  No, there has to be something more to it than that.  I think Isaiah needs one job and that job should be aligned with a strength.  If he fails then, fine.  Maybe he lost his mojo.  Maybe he never had it.  But to understand what he has been through is to give the guy the benefit of the doubt.  If you played in high school, you got a happy meal version of what it is like in college.  College was an appetizer when compared to pros.  We shall see.  But I am more optimistic about Simmons than I am XL.  Simmons was asked to things most NFL players cannot do.  XL just needs to catch the damn ball in bounds.   Middle schoolers do it every day.
    • This was a super interesting analysis....and I will say I dont think it prevents us from looking at Safety in the draft. IF Ransom takes a step up and outplays Moehrig, there is an out for them after the year as a potential cap cut.  EVEN if not, if you are right and Simmons shows some promise as a Big nickel and Moehrig gets  injured and Ransom looks good (or even if Moehrig looks bad) I could see him being a cap casualty in 2027 as long as we feel we have enough talent there as starting potential.  Lotta football to play and Lotta injuries to happen.  Im hopeful because his measurables are through the roof, but unless they translate you still gotta go with what you got.
