Why didn’t we just keep woods another year?

He got 5mill per deal from the Titans.

He was the tacks leader and leader of the unit, at least he tried to be in the right spot and made efforts to tackles players.

They gave the brinks truck to Tre'von and couldnt fit that 5 mill with him I guess. I was a fan of woods and he did what was rare in the NFL he stayed for the whole length of his contract.

They also fired the safety coach.

Honestly Woods was pretty trash. Tackles can very much be a double edged sword for a DB. Can be because he's really good in run support or can be because he's giving up a lot of completions.

I don't understand why it's so rare to find a safety that can both tackle and cover. I guess because the ones who can tackle get moved to linebacker early in their careers and the ones who can cover are moved to corner, but you'd still think more of them would stick at safety than do.

Good tacklers are rare. Good coverage skills are rare. Having both is more rare.

Coverage skills I can understand, but you'd think solid tacklers would be less rare than they are. That's a pretty basic skill for someone to learn if they're playing defense, at any age.

I mean the whole defense was trash, he was at least trying. Besides if you put a all-pro among 10 PSers, that all-world will look human. It's very hard to judge very bad units and find the best players among them. Horn and Mjack played well too, there was 0 pass rush and -1777784 run defense.

    • At this point, I think Chubba is the odd man out. I hate that, but I think Dowdle gives us more production and big play ability.  But there is still a lot of football to play.  I think it depends on how much Dowdle will want too.
    • I’ve been anti-trade when it comes to Melo, but the way this season has started, it may be time.  I love his game and he’s a cool dude, but I’m starting to think, if he’s your best player, you’re never going to win anything of significance.  Too many brain farts, too many injuries, and ultimately for as fun and entertaining as he is to watch - his game is indeed a thing of beauty - it just doesn’t translate to wins.  And that’s IF he even plays.  I think it’s time to cash out and maximize the return.  I love Melo, but I think it’s pretty clear what the ceiling is for a team where he is the best player.
    • Every NFL team, college program, hell even HS has numerous "what ifs" that got derailed by injury. It's a brutal sport and half the battle is just getting lucky enough to stay healthy. Doesn't matter how durable you are and how well you take care of your body everyone is one weird hit or awkward twist away from a career derailing injury.
