Dan Morgan gonna need to suit up at this point

Luke, Dan, and Trevin Wallace could probably make things happen.

On that note. For a team that has two HOF talents at Linebacker working for them, we have an utter lack of linebacker talent.

Not necessarily, if anything, I think there is an argument to be made that it's the least important position in football, so I don't take issue with them leaving it for last during this re-build.

Honestly the only position I think you could argue is less important to have studs is RB.

Today's NFL is about the passing game.  So you need the QB and WRs, as well as the OL to protect and give time for your passing game.  While the opposite is true on defense, that you need the pass rush and secondary to be your strongest units to defend against the pass.

There is a reason you don't see MLB's get drafted early in the 1st Round unless they're a true generational talent, like a Kuechly.

Do you not remember what our defense was like with Kuechly? And then without him?

Cornerback is the least important position on defense, followed by safety.

The most important are DT's, then DE's, then ILB, then OLB, then safety, then corner.

You build inside out and front to back.

We have to pay a backup QB something?  Dalton is making 8 million over 2 years.  Honestly that's pretty cheap.  Argument aside of how good he is, his contract seems fine.  Plenty of blame to go around for our cap getting full, but the backup QB on a 2 year 8 million dollar deal seems like quite the reach.

For me it's the combination of the loyalty to two aging veterans paired with whatever is going on at linebacker. Just a little too much of the same old Panthers. I can't imagine this news about Jewell just came out of left field. I don't expect them to have corrected the linebacker room entirely but there's really no excuse to have allowed it to be this thin either.

You can build around corner. We actually had a pro bowl guy he was just on a song of a contract. He got mega paid cause corners are prized. Hint, they are prized for a reason.

In fairness we're also hoping and praying that particular corner will also remain relatively healthy.

Revis and Gilmore, along with Ramsey are the only two guys I can think of that really impacted games. However, what did those guys always have in front of them? A great front 7.

Without a good front seven, any corner is going to have issues. Without a good front 7, you will still lose games, no matter if you have the best corner of all time.

LB was definitely neglected. I think we just had too many holes to fill. Maybe they still have something up their sleeve but I doubt it.

Panthers have 30th best LB corp.

Lose the best player and play caller.

Part of the Huddle- " You guys are upset over losing Jewell?? "

What the fug is this about??

No the season isnt off, but re-read the first couple lines until its understood.

I think the total starts for the whole group is around 30, all of them came last year during the weeks where Panthers were on the 4th string LB and signed windom off Steelers PS.

Baze the current play caller was a career STer and got a break last year at the bright age of 28. He started 12 games for the first time. Wallace started 8 before he got injuries.

It's the worst LB group and a huge test to the "LBs don't matter, so don't pay them"

What happens if Wallace or Baze miss time due to injuries like they did last year. UDFA Bam is the savior??

Lions are meeting with LB white, they also had LB problems....

Linebacker’s bad, and we’re going to keep having surprise weak spots pop up like this until we string a few decent drafts together. Fortunately, I really like this draft, and think Wallace has a chance to come in and keep the ship afloat, which would make last year’s draft a hit as well.

Apples to Oranges

Kuechly was a generational player, especially with his mental side of the game which helped the defense in a way few (if any) other defensive players ever have.  If there was another Kuechly, then yea, it's a different story in how important of a player they would be to the defense.

Also, the game has changed in even the short time since Luke retired,  I think an elite corner is the 2nd most important player to have on defense after an elite pass rusher with how the game is played these days.
