In my opinion there isn't anywhere near enough coverage to know how players are really doing.

Though the only thing I've seen about Scourton is that he has looked physical and disruptive

Its not enough coverage to know how things are transforming, but the preseason games will show some detail. As for Coker you got to put yourself in his shoes. He was an UDFA who stepped up when the opportunity came. He's not promised anything and have to fight for a position again and opportunities are slim with T-Mac, XL, Renfrow , and Horn getting so much attention. It seems like Coker is on the outside looking in again. Sometimes when situations like this happen, the team trades or let the player go to try to get the opportunity with another team out of respect they have for the player. I hope Coker can find his place, if not with Carolina, then with someone that will give him the opportunities.

Pretty much this. We get a few Tweets and videos out of the practices actually open to the media and that's pretty much about it. I appreciate the posters who share that stuff but at the end of the day it's basically just enough to reinforce whatever you wanted to believe to begin with. Lol

It does seem like Princely is making more noise than Scourton. I’m trying to be patient this year with Scourton and hopes he takes over for an edge next year. He doesn’t even turn 21 until the end of this month and Princley is already 23.

So, it has come up that this board is t as active as it used to be and that media coverage isn’t what it used to be. I for one have been disappointed by coverage of training camp. (And before some jag off tells me to get on TikTok, let me tell you: I am on TikTok and the fact that you think that constitutes coverage shows you how impoverished we are when it comes to training camp coverage) Anywho, thought I’d try to generate some questions I have been interested in. No ground breaking insights from me but curious to hear what others think.

WINNERS

Hunter Renfrow- sounds like he was expected to be on the bubble and looks like he has defied expectations to be at the top of the group. Almost certain he makes the team. Might be the number three receiver.

Jimmy Horn- drafted late and seemed like he was the type of player we would sign to PS. Now it seems like he is on the inside with reliably solid play, likely contributor on special teams, and as-advertised speed.

Turk Wharton: everything I hear about him is that he has exceeded expectations. Sounds like with Brown and Robinson being held out, he has run with the ones and performed well. I was particularly glad to hear he did well in run support as I thought he was brought in more as a pass rusher.

Bryce Young- looks like he is going to continue his trajectory of modest improvement. The real reason he makes the list is that it seems we have gotten a pretty significant upgrade at the wr and rb  positions with the above players looking promising he looks to have a decent jump in production.

LOSERS

ryan Fitzgerald - seems like the job was wide open and he has not taken advantage of the opportunity.

jalen Coker - with Jimmy horn snd Renfrow standing out, I think his role may be in jeopardy. I thought he would for sure be a big part of the offense after last year but as I pick our top six wr, he is looking like he is on the bubble more than I thought he’d be. Suddenly I think the wr is a bit crowded.

Nic scourton- being purposely harsh a bit but I think our EDGE situation is a bit crowded with wonnum, jones, and prince. I think they lean towards the vets to start and I’ve heard highlights from Prince. Again, way to early, I was just hoping to hear more about him standing out and I’ve heard nothing. It’s also a little crowded.

Fans- Training Camp just isn’t what it used to be. Less reporting, less access, less enthusiasm.all evidenced by me starting this topic instead of someone who knows what they are talking about.

WANT TO HEAR MORE FROM

honestly scourton and Coker should really be here for me. Want to generally hear more about our young guys. These two in particular

Pat Jones- one of our bigger signings. Has promise but heard nothing. Really interested in how edge plays out as we’ve invested a lot there and have, in my view four potential starters for two spots. Wondering how the snaps get shared.

Ransom-was high on him when we drafted him. Safety is a big need so I’m excited to see how it shakes out.

what do you think? Who has helped themselves? Hurt themselves? You’d like to hear more about? Sorry you are hearing from me and not someone better, but it’s been quiet so thought I’d float this out to see what others thought

Camp being entirely closed to fans this year is a big part of it.

I think Coker is basically a lock.  You have to separate out each WR position.   If XL or TMac can’t go…..who are inserting into their roles?

it’s not Renfrow, AT, or Horn.   I mean you can but they all would suck.  And that’s assuming TMac will be ready and good enough for every down work to kick off the year

I think you carry 6.  Make Moore the odd man out.

Generally, I think it's a tad early for winners and losers, but I know why people do it.

We're not going to jettison Coker unless we have a solid reason to do so (like an unexpected trade), but I don't see that realistically happening.

In my opinion, people are blowing up Jimmy Horn way too much at this point. Veteran experience is still a key component when deciding who actually gets jerseys on Sundays. Not saying that Horn doesn't have a chance, but it's going to take more. Special teams is not being given to him, and he is not the only person that has participated in drills (and he has at least one drop). Let's chill on Horn a little bit.

My default of Renfrow wasn't on the bubble. Despite many people thinking that he was JAG, I knew better (and intimated it from the beginning). His problem was health. That being said, his problem is still health, but he's in remission. Hopefully it's for a long time, but I still believe that he's a near lock at worst.

Turk Wharton was brought in to rush, but he was also known to be an apt run stopper. Honestly, all the free agent acquisitions were signed with the run in mind. Now none have had the season that Derrick Brown had stopping the run, but he hasn't either, except for that one season. Turk Wharton just might have the complete goods though. This will be his season to show his wares.

I can't even seriously say that Bryce will continue his ascension, and I surely ain't using preseason to make that proclamation. It's going to come down to what Bryce does in the regular season, and I believe that 2025 is going to go a long way towards defining Bryce's career. I hope for the best.

Moore is a very good special teams guy, FWIW.

He's an apt backup receiver as well, with ties to Dan Morgan and Dave Canales.

This is a good point I think. What concerned me about Coker is that he was a little redundant whereas some of lesser receivers may carve out a spot for themselves on special teams. I think you are right though, if Tet or Legette go down he is next man up.

This is what I keep going back and forth on. If it’s pure merit, there is no way Coker isn’t on the team, but Horn and Moore offer more on special teams
