It's a preseason game, but...losing is not an option.

Table is at least set for a huddle spaz attack and the media to have a field day.

I mean if Sanders looks better than BY in limited work? Oh wee mayne.  Would be wild times here.

I definitely do not want to be the first team Shedeur has a really good game against. But none of it really matters. I mean Bryce and the offense looked good against the Bills backups last year and most people breathed a sigh of relief until weeks 1 and 2. In the end it doesn't mean anything. I won't be a believer until I see competitive football early in the regular season.

We ran our 1st team vs their backups and had to go for it on 4th down ….that was a red flag going into week 1.   Lot of the board didn’t breath a sign of relief if memory serves

actual worst case scenario is Sanders has success vs our weak D and hits Dionte Johnson….and the Panthers stall on their one drive

my hope is XL shuts up the majority of the board.  I still think he is the dude this year that provides the biggest pop to the O

It was a mixed bag. @hepcat tried to tell these mofos (page 5, I believe), and got shitted by a dozen people. There were dissenters amidst the praise choir. LOL

He didn't post anything overly egregious. That just goes to show how fragile the psyche of some folks have become under the weight of the trade the Tepper's pushed for. We've been willing to blur the line for a lot of things to convince ourselves of this or that to justify the investment. For the sake of the huddle let's hope for the best case scenario in 2025.

Legette dropped 14% of his targets last year. He won’t shut people up by continuing to drop balls like he did at FanFest.

Very simply, our starters have to look good while out there, and I want to see everybody who isn't a starter playing like their career is on the line trying to earn a spot. That is it. If I see anything else, I will be very disheartened.

Something like 40 out of 53 spots are decided. The rest is noise, honestly. But the final score is indicative of depth which does play a role down the line.

No I'd say 30 spots are likely locks. Everything else is probably a question mark of fit and effort. Somebody is currently a #2 who could slide to #3 or even cut before the end of the month. That's the point.

What actually wild is that it is more acceptable to bash XL around here than Bryce.

Mitchell, Worthy and all the other top rookies last year had high drop % too that play out on the outside.    XL also had the nicest TD at Fan Fest.

Given the tendency to practice against preseason teams before you play the game lessens the value of winning or losing a preseason game. It isn't about culture so much as giving your starters plenty of practice in a controlled fashion and playing well against their starters.

Sure you want to win with whoever is on the field but not to the point you leave starters in the game too long and risk injury. You need to develop depth and find out who you are going to use to fill out the roster. That is more important than winning or losing.

So yes you need to try and win the game but coaches will tell they are trying different combinations and specific players in specific situations. The truth is teams with the best defense tends to win in the preseason. Baltimore is a prime example.

    • After some of the calls last year probably won't see much of a drop off
    • https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/48344034/nfl-begin-hiring-replacement-officials-given-state-negotiations-nfl-referees-association   Honestly fug these refs and their union. Resisting changes that would actually incentivize good performance and not seniority based systems. What a bunch of donkeys. Hope the replacements straight up take their jobs and never give them back. Sick of watching refs script games with no repercussions.
    • Donovan seems like highest risk to me. Lloyd and May have already established relationships with all these kids. There’s probably guys hitting the portal that they recruited from HS. And then there’s the possibility of transferring their own guys from their current teams. They’ve also been recruiting the HS kids for like the next 5 years already. Look at the Iowa coach who hit the ground running by transferring all his guys from his D2 program. Or going across sports to Cignetti transferring all his JMU guys year one then building off that to a national title year 2. Donovan is starting from square one having been in the NBA so long and he’s already 60. So you’re potentially punting year 1 for a guy you are just hoping to be a 10 year hire while you figure out how to actually develop your next home grown 20yr guy. That’s 1/10th of the time you have him, more or less at best. The hope would be that he would find some high level assistants who have been working the college recruiting trails already, but then are you giving up his ideal staff just to get a foothold in recruiting and transfers. Think Belichick year one was bad? Imagine how much worse it would be without Steve Belichicks transfer portal pulls. Hoping Mays or Lloyd are all they’re cracked up to be.
