Cherelus down. We need to be talking about LBs even more

It's been well over 24 hours, and I'm surprised that no one here has talked about Claudin Cherelus going down, and the fact that there hasn't been any new updates as of yet. He has a "groin issue," but how long is he expected to be down? Sure, we signed Krys Barnes a few days ago, but he was meant to be depth. If either Christian Rozeboom or Trevin Wallace go down, a perceived weakness is now even weaker, and that's before we even get to the season.

Our old Panthers Wire friend Tim Weaver, now turned to SI thinks that Morgan has to acquire someone.

"Looking ahead, Rozeboom and Trevin Wallace are projected to start for the Panthers. If either one of them were to go down, it could mean a guaranteed disaster in the middle of this defense. General manager Dan Morgan has little choice but to sign a proven vet at this spot before the season begins."

I guess we'll see come cuts.

Y'all need to chill on the LB panic and just come to grips with the reality that it's gonna be a weak spot and we're gonna be dumpster diving on the waiver wire to fill in the gaps. The last thing we need to do is make some panic move and trade real assets for a bandaid like we would've certainly done in the past under Rhule and Fitterer.

I mean, I mentioned cuts. That being said, I'm going to trust that Dan and Dave know what they're doing however they address the situation (or not).

I just hope they're addressing it thinking long-term. Don't give up assets that can be used long-term for a short-term solution for a team highly unlikely to compete in a significant way this season.

There will be serviceable fill one on the waiver wire. If we have the good fortune of finding out that we have forth at a position group that's going to result in the release of an NFL level player then work the phones to see if there's a team out there with a need there that finds themselves in that same situation at LB.

I can agree with that. I just think that some of you are thinking that you know more than they do regarding what's NFL-level talent, the degrees of that talent in relation to what we'd offer in a trade, what player(s) will fit the preferred defensive scheme, and that they're gonna buy "Band-Aids" with undervalued and relatively important draft capital. I feel that they're doing their best not to put us in that situation.

Dan Morgan was a good LB for goodness sakes. He knows something about the position. He probably knows how to value one correctly also.

This roster had so many holes and problems after Fitterer spent 4 seasons mismanaging the hell out of it and trading away the talent we did have. We’ve addressed some but theres still some issues.

I don't think that I know more than NFL front office people and that's why I find it so baffling when I see them doing obviously idiotic things. They really should know better.

I mean, this is a message board to talk about football. If your stance is they know more so we should all just trust them then what's even the point?

I get good vibes off Barnes. Im hoping our scout team pulled off a Luvu type signing when we brought him in. If he was just a little more consistent he'd definitely be one of our starters imo.

Wallace should be improved, Rozeboom will be flying all over the field, Barnes is my guy and I'd wager that Bam makes the team as well. I still say its our weakest position on D though.

If we get into the season and it becomes an evident liability, surely Morgan will patch up the problem being a former LB himself. I'd hope so anyway.

What will help more than anything will be improved DL play. We loaded up on DL in FA for a reason. Morgan knows full well that a LB's best friend is a good DL to keep blockers off of him. I'd rather have a good DL with deficient LBs behind it than vice versa.

Who?

I thought Huddlers has decided that only corners and edge rushers mattered to good defense now? Linebackers don't really matter man. Dime a dozen. That's why we replaced Luke Kuechly so quickly....

Our linebacker corp is screwed, and that's ironic to me. Get Ron Rivera in the building for just one off-season please.

Rhule fever seems to be en vogue. It's wild, one would assume that Panther fans would want to distance themselves from that fuging nonsense.
