Because at 30 (he'll turn 31 on December 5th) he's likely to be past his prime before this team is ready to meaningfully compete all the while it's draining us of cap space and depriving us of draft capital to add younger talent. It's just not a smart move for this organization at this time, but it's the exact type of move we've been making the entire Tepper era where we're more than happy to shoot ourselves in the dick for the future while trying to squeeze 5-6 wins out of a 3-4 win roster. Just brilliant.

It's not as if he won't continue to be an elite pass rusher but it's not the right TIME for a move like this. We are just digging out of cap issues, have little to no actual core and even adding him isn't going to add a ton in the W/L column this season.

I don't think anyone arguing against trading for him doesn't like the player. I love the guy.

These gotta be people that are still clinging to this idea of this being a playoff team.

They technically have until the trade deadline and reality is that they could acquire more suitors as injuries or issues pile up.

It really just depends on how deep they want to go.

Then teams would be paying for a 1/2 year rental, knowing that Hendrickson, by that point, would be willing to play it out to free agency and see what the market would pay him.

I don’t think the Bengals would risk plummeting his price by waiting. With them putting the trade info out there, they’re ready to make a move.

Anyone making a trade at this point is likely going to extend him.

There is also the chance the Bengals screw it up enough that they just let him play out his contract and then attempt this again next offseason after they tag him.

If they really wanted to unload him, they technically already missed the boat. That should have been done in the offseason and prior to the draft.

Coming in late to this so probably already been said, but this is exactly the kind of bait you CANNOT take during the first 3 years of a rebuild.  What good is tying up $30+M in an almost 32-yr old when you are at least 1-2 years away from contending?  Would a 17.5 sack DE be great to watch?  YES!  Would he decline by the time we are competing?  YES!  Gotta pass.
