It’s happened to us plenty, but the Saints have had a run of drafted defensive players leaving and catching on with other teams just like us.

I can't recall many of our busts leaving here and succeeding. We have a big talent for accuracy on our bust players. When they fail, they fail big.

So is this just baseless speculation or actual sourcing from someone familiar with or close to the team? Because it makes no actual sense with depth issues across the roster and what looks like objectively one of the worst QB rooms in the entire league.

Probably so, but sheesh, being 31 and paying him all that is wild to me. This team isn’t to that point yet

I mean, a lot of pass rushers remain effective through their mid-late 30s.  The age doesn’t concern me as much as the fit and the timing.

Would have made sense before the draft, but now that we drafted Scourton and Princely, it just doesn’t make sense to give up players, picks, and the contract for a soon to be 31 year old.

Sure, he could be really good for us and improve the defense, but it would be at the direct cost of developing players who could play here at a high level more then 3 years down the road from now, unlike Trey would.

Depends on the scenario. Could be us just doing a price check. I think it's also an acknowledgement that we currently have rotational/backup pass rushers as our starters.

Now, before any poos, I don't want us to do it, I'm just saying this.  When I saw it say they want a player and a pick, I got to thinking, what player would even qualify.  Jaycee wouldn't because of his contract and the whole thing is that Cincinnati doesn't have money.  Same with Derrick brown.  Everyone else in defense is either straight rookie or expensive vet, too much for their liking.  I love our relievers, but that's not a position they need even a little...then I got to the player I think Cincinnati would target.  Ikey.  A rookie contract with 5th year still available.  I think the compensation is along the lines of ikey and a 2nd or 3rd.  Still don't wanna do it for a year that we MAY make a push, but food for thought in what I'm guessing they want in comp.

I mean, look, if we could get him for say Wonum, Moore, and a 4th, and then he’d be okay getting $20 a year for 3 years with just 40 guaranteed, then sure, I’m in.

But I think it would cost us more than that in trade capital and a decent amount more money too.

Yes we might only have rotational or backup rushers as they currently stand.  But I think there is a real possibility that Scourton and Princely could be our starting edge rushers for years to come, maybe as early as next year.

Trey is someone you’ll get 3 years out of hopefully, I’d rather gamble on us finally hitting on some 2nd and 3rd rounders to have as starters on cheap deals for a few years than give up the capital and cap room for a 3 year rental.

    • Just going off the draft sims and he's always sitting around 20 lol. First year in a while where we haven't been thinking about the draft already in late October so haven't really looked into the top 15-20 picks yet. Also the qb class is super weak so he probably will sneak up into 10-15
    • I fully expect them to pick up his 5th year , and they're waiting for him to put a full excellent consistent season of QB play in year 4 or 5. If that don't happen,  they'll eventually cut ties.  Here's to hoping he just goes on a team in 2026. The worst thing he could do is continue to see-saw us to around .500 records because it might be impossible to replace him at that point unless youre willing to do the veteran qb carousel poo we did from 2019 to 2023.
    • What do you think of Bryce Youngs career thus far? Are you excited about his progress or is it not enough for you? I included a poll of ranking his performance through 3 years thus far.  I personally think he's made some decent progress. Has had some high moments (last half of 2024, Rams game, ATL game in 2025)  but in my mind, those are still outweighed by the many more lowlights thus far (ex turnovers, missed throws, poor decisions)  It's a very mixed bag for me. He's done enough to get a 5th year option but by no means should we lock him in with a 50+ mil a year multi year deal. I want to see him play consistently well for a full year before that happens (yes, I'm still saying that going into year 4. That might be telling).  Just sucks when you see CJ Stroud, Jayden Daniel's, Caleb Williams almost immediately lighting poo up with their arm talent. Maybe Bryce is just an ultra slow burn. I don't know what to think anymore. Guess we're gonna be stuck with him for a whilr unless we end up being bad enough to earn a high pick next year. I doubted it lol. Overall Stats for his career:       ● 14 W - 30L (regular season)       ● 0-1 playoffs record        ● 61.4% completion, 8291 passing yards, 49 TDs, 30 INTs  Year 1:       ● 2 wins, 14 losses      ● 60% completion rate, 2877 passing yards, 11 TD to 10 INTs, 5.5 yards per attempted pass Year 2:        ● 4 wins , 8 losses        ● 60.9% completion rate,  2403 passing yards, 15 TD, 9 INTs,  6.3 yards per attempted pass  Year 3:        ● 8 Wins, 8 Losses         ● 63.6% competition rate, 3011 passing yards, 23 TDs to 11 INTs  Playoffs         ● 1 game in year 3 ( 0 - 1 in playoffs)         ● 21/40 (52.5% completion rate), 264 passing yards, 1 TD, 1 INT.
