There is really no threat of Tremayne not clearing waivers. That's what I meant.

Maybe. He was pretty good in college before a bad injury.

He had a good preseason last year as a UDFA in Washington and was on their practice squad all year so they obviously saw something worth developing.

He signed a futures deal with the Panthers earlier this year, and everything about him has been increasingly positive.

Tremayne has gotten a decent amount of time with the ones, and a lot with the twos for someone that doesn't have a chance.

He's the only other 6'4" plus WR on the team, plays ST, and is a more natural backup to the X receiver position than David Moore.

That was my thinking behind it. But he may well end up as one of the last roster cuts.

If so, I do hope they can bring him back to the PS.

But I personally think there's a good chance he could be claimed given his ST ability and what hes shown at WR.

not sure how Tremble is going to be ready for week 1 per Canales

had back surgery in May and hasn't had any practice/live contact all preseason, but will be ready for week 1?

By all indications, the surgery was "minor." I know with all surgeries and especially back surgery there can be complications, but I think the whole time Tremble did this with the expectation he would be able to be back for Week 1

It sounds like he will be ready to start back in team drills next week.

He's a veteran who knows the system so I'm sure that helps.

I still can't imagine he will play a normal workload early on though

A lot can change over the next week, but here is my best 53-man roster (note: I'm just basing this on guys on the 90 man roster currently). Obviously there could be trades/ waiver claims/ FA signings.

QB (2): Bryce Young, Andy Dalton

RB (3): Chuba Hubbard, Rico Dowdle, Trevor Etienne

TE (4): Tommy Tremble, JT Sanders, Mitchell Evans, James Mitchell

WR (7): Tetoria McMillan, Xavier Legette, Adam Theilen, Jalen Coker, Hunter Renfrow, Jimmy Horn, Brycen Tremayne

OL (9): Ikem Ekwonu, Damien Lewis, Austin Corbett, Robert Hunt, Taylor Moton, Cade Mays, Chandler Zavala, Brady Christensen, Yosh Nijman

Defense (25)

DL (6): Derrick Brown, Bobby Brown, Ashawn Robinson, Tershawn Wharton, Sam Roberts, Cam Jackson

OLB (5): DJ Wonnum, Pat Jones, Nic Scourton, Princely Umanmielen, Thomas Incoom

ILB (5): Trevin Wallace, Christian Rozeboom, Krys Barnes, Jon Rattigen, Claudin Cherelus

Would love for Crumedy to make the roster but Roberts has played pretty well.

I'd be hype to keep James Mitchell.

I know it’s not popular. But I don’t think Jimmy Horn makes it. Was reading on Twitter earlier about how his reps in practice and games have dropped off significantly. Tremayne will be the bubble guy.

I literally agree with everything else.

I think he was drafted primarily as a return man and then we were going to look to develop him as a WR but he didn't impress as a returner and probably just isn't far enough along as a WR to make it. We'll hope to stash him on the PS and if someone picks him up, oh well. That's just the way it goes with 6th rounders sometimes.

In a lot of systems, WR must be able to block in the run game.

He’s too small for that.

cutting Tremble saves us 4.5 mill.  CFutting Mitchell only saves 1 mill.  Depends on how much we value Tremble's blocking ability.  Maybe Mitchell can block, I don't know anything about him

- They like OG Jarrett Kingston, I think he's kept as our 10th o-lineman. He's graded out very well on the first 2 preseason games and played C vs Texans

- We keep 6 WR, Hunter Renfrow gets cut

- Jaden Crumedy has been very strong vs the run, we keep him over Cam Jackson

Spotrac says that Tremble's cap hit for 2025 is $3.85M with a dead cap of $6M. Next season though, he'll have a $6.5M cap hit but the dead cap number would only be $2.16M.

Mitchell Evans hasn't looked good while James Mitchell has looked better (imo). Tremble is still the best guy in that room until JT0 becomes more consistent.

How do you keep 6 while cutting Renfrow.

Renfrow is the best PR and best pure slot guy on this team right now.

No way a well run team keeps Moore and Horn both over him….then again, we are a poorly run team

I would say that would be a mild surprise if he doesn't.

    • We’re in a pickle. My best hope is we protect him and can run the ball vs most Ds and the WRs are healthy so he has every chance to not look like what he looked like in too many games last year.
    • I'm really not stressing about upgrading from Bryce. I'm frustrated with our inability (or refusal) to recognize overall bad QB performance and failure to seriously address the issue. QB is the most impactful position on the field, and we're not only settling for what we've been given to this point, but we've rewarded it with a fully guaranteed 5th year extension for a player that's never played 2 NFL franchise QB quality games back to back in 3 seasons. I can't understand how that's ok from a coach's or GM's viewpoint. Successful franchises don't do things like this. It just doesn't make sense.  We do not have a top half of the league QB right now. Since we don't have that player, we should be looking for him. Pickett isn't it. Grier isn't it. Bryce hasn't proven he is yet. Until you have that sure fire franchise QB, you keep looking. You're not consistently making the playoffs, a deep run, or a SB appearance without one.  What's the worst that could happen? We end up with 2 potential number 1 QBs? How horrible.
    • Easy to understand Pickett, if this is anywhere close to on point. Canales wants to get as close to Bryce as he can- get the pace and timing in the throws as close a he can to Bryce. So the other players don’t have to adjust so much, to a new guy.       If Cam was the 1, he would look for a rocket arm.  But Bryce is the 1. Look for limited in the same way.  Low velocity, plenty of air under it, feels just like home when Picket comes in. And you have the guys on the second team not having such a radical adjustment (if they have to play) like with Dalton to Bryce.    Enter Grier. I guess we will collect those types.
