I am still flabbergasted so many pushed back on my assertion that this was the second worst roster in Panthers history. Like.....how was it not obvious???

I felt like defensive moves were made that would make us better. I saw 0 urgency in trying to get to the passer yesterday so either the DC sucks the scheme sucks or the players suck. I think it's all 3

Wharton was the only appreciable pass rush element and he got injured early and often. TBH, once he was out for good, I am not sure we had a DL pressure the rest of the game.

Yep. Our $25 mil per year D-lineman didn't get close to the QB yesterday. We haven't had a legit interior pass rusher since Kwann Short. I don't understand why our FO tends to focus in on College DT's who can't rush the passer in the 1st round. We did it with Vernon Butler and we did it with Derrick Brown.

The leader of this team is Chuba

His heart of his sleeve for this damned franchise and gives everything he has every single game

I don’t know another one who does.   Not a one

I agree with you for the most part. I'd also consider Jaycee, and, yes I know that he has his injury history, but he still plays hard. He really impacts the game more than Brown if people are being honest.

I can't speak to the rookies yet, but T-Mac looks like a gamer.

I'll tell you who isn't a leader of this team.. Dave canales

The talent isn’t great, but this has to be the worst top to bottom coaching staff I’ve ever seen. There are players here and there making plays out of shear heart, but it is only due to their individual effort. Horn and Chuba. That’s it.

Not a single position group is even a little prepared to play. WHERE IS THE COACHING?  It’s an amateur hour clown show. NOBODY knows wtf to do or how to do it. This is the basic stuff that is supposed to get ironed out in TC. I now 100% believe this is why Thielen wanted out. He saw the unprepared and unmotivated s-show all through camp and wanted no part of it. XL not even trying to block or come down in bounds??? That’s as basic as it gets! GTFO.

Sadly, under Tepp, this team is THE no fly zone in all of pro sports for competent coaches. NOBODY wants to work for that dude. It’s the coach graveyard and Tepp is the undertaker. Position coaches by and large want to climb the coaching ladder so why in the hell would anyone worth anything come here?

This team needed and still needs a GM/HC combo that Tepp would never feel comfortable hiring. Just imagine if we could have landed Harbuagh, Johnson or Payton. Our 2 SB coaches, Fox or Rivera, would have never been hired under current ownership. It starts at the top.

My way or no way coaches need not apply here, sadly.

But, PRIME CAM could score points with this OFFENSE!

We all know the defense sucks. But if we went 6-11, but average 24 points a game we could live with that because we could then focus solely on the defense for the next 2 off-seasons.

I don't think our defense sucks as bad as everyone thinks it does. That doesn't mean they're good by any stretch, but they literally have no chance to win. None. Our offense is absolute dog poo led by a PS QB. You can play as hard as you want, but these guys have got to be demoralized as hell knowing if they give up a touchdown, in all likelihood the game is over.

You're right, Cam would change this locker room. Cam's energy was infectious and he would never put up with the poo we're seeing now. It makes a difference when you believe you have a fighting chance to win. Get Bryce off the field. Dalton, Hooker, Plummer, hell straight up trade for AR at this point. Get him off this damn team.

Cool story bro. 200 yards rushing

While it looks terrible, take away that 70 yard run and they would have only averaged a touch over 4 yards a carry, which isn't bad.

Hard for the defense to do much when the offense is completely inept. They held the Jags to 6 points in the 2nd half and gave the offense their chances to score some points.

I rewatched the game this AM and yeah the stats are a bit deceiving..

The DL played ok I though. The biggest issues was the inability to tackles by the LB's and Safeties. I also found guys over committing on their run gaps which lead to chunk runs.

To me this looked like a young, immature team that made mental mistakes by trying too hard. They need to play smarter not harder.

This is an improved roster from end of the year last year. I think this can get cleaned up. Im not ready to write off the season yet.

I said this in post yesterday (but under a different topic). When you go on the field the defense needs to feel that the offense is capable of winning the game if they hold up their on their end. The Panthers go into every game outmanned at the QB position. The team doesn't put up enough points or have the ball long enough to lighten the load on the defense.

I think Canales gets too much blame as well. He was hired to "fix Bryce". At least for now, Tepper isn't going to let him bring in a guy who has a legitimate shot at taking his job. Bryce is limited in his talent, which limits what Canales can do in games. We've all seen plays where guys were open but BY failed to see them or made a bad throw. Put Cam Newton in this offense with the exact same players and we'd easily average 3 TDs a game and probably contend for the NFC South. Take the same team and add in Greg Olsen type talent at TE...we'd win the NFC South.

In order to compensate for BY outside of garbage time, our defense needs to be one of the best in NFL history to even stand a chance at winning a game. That's too much to ask of a group of guys week in and week out.

Make no mistake, the offense is potentially salvageable this season, the defense absolutely is not.
