Predictions from observer staff on game today

Game predictions

All three of our predictors guessed last week that the Panthers would lose to the Miami Dolphins. All were wrong. That moves Fowler to 4-1 on the year, with Kaye and Zietlow each at 1-4.

Fowler: Panthers 30, Dallas 27. The Cowboys are known for playing entertaining games this season due to a high-powered offense and low-level defense. I think Carolina pulls the mild upset here, with Bryce Young playing about as well as Dak Prescott and Carolina’s running game providing the difference. Bonus prediction: Tetairoa McMillan scores his first NFL TD.

Kaye: Cowboys 33, Panthers 30.
The top offense in the league is likely to come out firing on Sunday, as Dallas looks to get over the .500 hump after five games (including one tie). Will the Panthers be able to keep pace? I actually think they will, for the most part. There’s a lot of boom-or-bust to the Cowboys’ defense, and while the unit is starting to find its footing, I think Bryce Young will still have a good afternoon. Look for Tetairoa McMillan to catch his first touchdown pass in a shootout. But I still think Dallas has a better brand of ball at the moment.

Zietlow: Cowboys 35, Panthers 31.                    I look at the Cowboys’ league-worst third-down percentage as a defense and can’t help but feel some optimism. Tag that with the other opportunities this defense could allow for Bryce Young, and a motivated Rico Dowdle, and a refreshed Xavier Legette ... and there’s excitement, for sure.

Still, the Cowboys have gone toe-to-toe with the NFL’s best this season. Their quarterback is electric. Their tight end is prolific. Their defensive secondary is due for one of its patented turnover bonanzas. And to top it all off ... the Panthers will have a “home field advantage” in name only. There will be a lot of Cowboys fans in the crowd. A lot. It just doesn’t add up to a Panthers win to me. I’m rolling with America’s Team.

I would be very surprised if we did.
But I think bad weather might help the Panthers. Not sure how bad it would get but man down here in the coast we have been taking a real pounding for two or three days.

I find it a little odd that none factored the weather into their hi flying offense predictions.

If I bet I might do the under and I don’t even know what it is.

Doesn't appear there will be any significant weather.

It is hard to say. That storm stalled over me for the last two days. If the stadium just happened to get in the path of one of those outer bands and it does that there could be some pretty good wind and water.
Agree it does look like intermittent bits of rain at most otherwise.

    • It’ll be extremely hard to bring an elite coach into this dumpster fire, not to mention having to deal with the Teppers.  So yeah, fix the QB problem and then deal with coaching if need be.
    • Somebody get the Jim Mora gif ready in 3….2…1…. For those of you who care, the path to the playoffs is really clear cut and Sundays game against the Rams nor Tampas games against the cupcakes they have remaining factor in really at all.    In all likelihood the only way the Panthers are playing in the second week of January is if they win the division.  The loss to the niners did a lot of damage to any wildcard hopes they may have.   The formula to win the division is pretty simple. After the bye week, if Carolina wins their final four games (at NO, vs Tampa, vs Seattle, and at Tampa) they are NFC South Champs. In that scenario, they finish 10-7 and the Bucs best possible finish would be 10-7 as well. The Panthers would win a tiebreaker with a 5-1 division record.    Ironically, the late season bye comes at a perfect time. Get healthy and try and win four in a row.    With Canales outsmarting himself at every turn and Bryce putting up QB numbers not seen since leather helmets were worn, the thought of winning four in a row seems almost impossible, but, we at least go into December in the hunt.
    • They are definitely out there condemning Canales and absolving Young.  Which, condemn Canales if you want but then leave Young responsibility free? Nah, that is just Bryce fanning.
