Dude. I like you and respect your contributions. But you went into a thread to randomly bitch about Stroud in a way to compare to Bryce.

"Both sides" do it. And sometimes "haters" will say something like "x or y does well in spite of circumstances" and people jump in defending Bryce when his name isn't even used.

Whether or not it is equal in trolling it is very clear both sides are doing it.

Oh I for sure went into a thread where folks were talking poo about Bryce after a win to troll them about CJ the same way they try to troll about Bryce after every game. It's not like I hadn't made good faith attempts to engage previously.

Let's call a spade a spade here: Bryce haters are convinced that there is nothing he can do to ever be an NFL QB because he's too small. Bryce "stans" see that the kid can play despite his physical limitations and that the team around him is still being put together. Only one of these groups is pretending that they know the future.

If the best effort I'm going to get from folks is trolling then... well... that's all they're going to get. Sucks, because I'd love to have an actual conversation, but that requires the other side to want to have a conversation as well. I could take some accountability I suppose... but I'll follow the lead of others and say that it's because the team isn't good and not because of conscious choices I'm making. 😉

There’s too many to reply to so I’ll just say a couple more things then I’m out:

1. It hasn’t been both ways and that’s the point. People saying stuff like “too bad Bryce Young didn’t make that tackle” is a direct result of the ridiculousness of blaming Bryce Young for literally everything. I remember one game day thread a poster unironically blamed Bryce Young for JT Sanders flipping onto his own neck and injuring himself. That post was pied. I literally just read a post blaming Bryce Young for XL dropping a ball on a would-be game winning drive last year. This past week, when Tmac bounced a ball off his hands for an interception, Bryce Young was immediately blamed in the game day thread. Alternatively, people who try to give credit to Bryce Young are immediately told that to credit Bryce Young is taking away credit from Rico Dowdle, OL, whoever, and that they shouldn’t be talking positively about Bryce Young because he doesn’t deserve any credit.

2. Yes, there have always been bad posters, the difference is that back then they were largely derided. Bryce Young’s rookie season, when many of us were simply pointing at the train wreck of the whole team and saying it was maybe a little tough to evaluate Bryce Young when he had no time to throw and slow receivers, and just saying basic stuff like “Bryce Young can physically throw the ball further than 20 yards.” There was an attempt made to limit all those opinions to a single thread, by a mod. This is like saying lunatics running the asylum is normal because there have always been lunatics in the asylum. The difference is before they were patients, now they’re in charge.

3. I know for a fact I am labeled as one of the “Bryce Stans” by many of the usual suspects, but the fact of the matter is they have no idea what my position is on Bryce Young because any attempts at nuanced discussion in the past have been so completely pointless due to never being able to get past the hyperbole. How can we have a serious conversation if you insist he is physically incapable of throwing a football 20 yards? Or if you insist that he somehow duped the Panthers into drafting him just by drinking water? Or if you insist that he should be able to succeed behind one of the worst offensive lines I’ve ever seen (rookie year, not now). And I’m not the only one, there are many who have left the huddle because of it and started a discord server, I’m just too lazy for another app.

That is how you see yourself, not necessarily how others see you.

The next logical step of this is to not spend money at QB unless you have a star.  Build a great team and don't lock anyone in at QB until you find a dude who's more than just the circumstances of his situation.

I’d be for bring in a Trey Lance, Zack Wilson type vet that still has a bit of a ceiling. Once your team is succeeding as a unit you can look at drafting one preferable one to sit for at least half a year if not longer. That seems to be a decent formula.

Are you 100% certain this is the narrative you want to go with? That people were talking poo about Bryce in the thread?

Who brought up Bryce here? Who started trolling first?

Nobody had said anything negative about Bryce and in fact agreed with you that he appeared better than JJ!  Then you had to go and start trolling fans about Stroud for obvious reasons.

Rhule and co had baker in a qb battle all through camp, not really giving him the best chance to succeed.  I mean who the fug has qb battles in a nfl training camp?  Dumbass rhule thats who.

So are you saying Rhule never set Baker up for success. That's part of the reason he didn't work out here?

Yes I know you see me as handsome, charming, witty, and intelligent, but that’s not what this is about.

The thing is, a random person makes a statement that few others would make and it gets transposed to the whole group.

I vaguely remember the blaming Bryce for a punt return or missing a tackle, whatever it was, and saw that as satire, not literal, but people go off as if it was said in earnest, and then you get the putting it on the skeptics as a group. Again.

And for you or anyone to say this doesn’t go both ways, it just makes you look totally biased.

Oh I for sure did in that thread. Look at the date though: that was right after beating the Falcons 30-0. What do you think was happening in a bunch of other threads? Do you think that the haters were in other threads giving Bryce his flowers or were they doing their best to try and say it was because Penix sucks? 😛

You got me doing that in one thread. Now how many threads has frankw done that in? If it's really equal then it shouldn't be more than one or two, correct?

I don't think this is true. Certainly as someone people call a hater frequently, I would like nothing more than for BY to be our long term answer at QB.  I just haven't seen that yet.

I think most posters are actually quite in a similar place with BY - haven't seen enough yet and hope he shows us something this year. It's just a difference on what they think of his existing play to date, how much of it is his fault, etc.

I've seen enough of Bryce, but if he somehow does a 180 on a consistent basis, I'll be ecstatic. Not holding my breath though.

And I think you're spot-on about the perspectives on his existing play to date, especially this season. I've only seen him play one good game this season. I suspect that our previous wins before last Sunday is something Andy Dalton could have achieved (and I don't see that as a particularly hot take).

I don’t remember the exact timeline of Baker but I feel like he was brought in late and started out behind the 8 ball a little bit to start with.

Then he played maybe the worst opening quarter to start the season that we have seen in a long time if ever, pre Bryce.

could be entertaining

Spiral? I haven't seen any spiral, just some pushback on another Bryce-is-really-good-if-he-had-a-team thread.
