Bryce Young has now played one full seasons worth of games since returning from his benching in 2024

I think Dalton, if he plays, looks slightly better than Bryce. So, if the wheels don't fall off Bryce(or Andy) the remainder of the season, I suspect we are looking at the exact same QB room in 2026.

I would be surprised if he either signed a younger guy or drafted a guy. Also, we should probably actually draft a guy.

I'd be a little surprised if Dalton does look better after a game.  Sure we could have the surprise game where there isn't much film on him with these new weapons, but just like last year he will look bad if not worse after that (if that even happens).  For all of his short comings (pun intended) Bryce is a lot more twitchy in the pocket and has saved a lot of sacks that Dalton probably couldn't this year.

I think we invest all of our draft capital in building a stronger roster.  I'm not sure a backup rookie QB does has the immediate returns they are looking for.  Unless there is some QB we are high on that falls to the mid/late rounds I don't see happening.  Now if Bryce just bombs this second half all bets are off.

I think Willis, Howell, Lance, and Z Wilson are all young relatively cheap options to come in. I don’t know if they beat out Bryce early. I think it’s going to take him struggling and getting benched again, but that’s just my thought.

These are all clear bust guys. They are more suited for teams with well established starters and good QB development. That isn't us. Also none of those guys are clearly better than Bryce and none of them are an actual upgrade over Dalton.

I am fine with them as a 3rd string option. That's very reasonable. But it wouldn't fix any of the current QB issues.

But, that being the case, is it better to dumpster dive or maybe take a shot in the draft on a guy? Not saying I prefer one or the other, that's all situation based.

Well the bar for Dalton looking better had been set pretty low by Bryce.

My expectation is slightly more production and far quicker decision making with the ball. Less mobility but quicker and probably more accurate.

So something like Bryce + 10-15%.

I am not exactly expecting him to blow the doors off. Maybe just achieve slightly below average NFL QB play.

Bryce and Dalton are similar in my eyes. Both severely limit the offense and need a plan around them to succeed.

I hope that Canales doesn’t get pass happy and keep with the game manager strategy because it is the only thing that will work with these two QBs.

they are very different versions of below average.  For Dalton to be whatever version of not bad he still is.....he had to throw the ball downfield.

Dalton is much better pre snap and getting rid of it in the pocket. I just don't think he has much if any juice left. Basically how he looked in game 2 the last 2 years of his starting stints. So still an improvement from Bryce but a ghost of his former self at this point. If DC doesn't call a run heavy game he is going to have a rough day.

I mean, Bryce Young is ahead of Trevor in that biggest QB bust in the last 20 years race you speak of.

Trevor is exactly the same dude that played at Clemson.

You don't even need to limit to QB - considering what we gave up, Young is the biggest bust of the last 20 years.

Absolute franchise crippler.

We'll see how far the Dalton line has fallen.

I think people are going to be fairly disappointed that maybe DC doesn't have the high flying, downfield offense that a lot of people crave.

This guy really doesn't wow me a bunch with his playcalling.

I don’t think people envision Daryle Lamonica, just want to see the defense have to legitimately worry about letting people beat them deep.

I will be wow'd by his play calling if he feeds Rico and stays out of his own way.

This is basically me. I do think he has created quite a few of the problems the offense struggles with, outside of the bad QB situation.

Of course they are all busts. Young QBs with high upside that either had their chance cut short or were in terrible situations. Building your roster and trying for one of those is a cheap risk potential high reward situation. I don’t think we take one early in the draft again right away. Mid to late in the draft is a cheap gamble but deliver pretty low chances. Trying to recreate a Danny Dimes, Geno Smith, San Darnold, Baker Mayfield type situation as our plan B kind of works. At worst these guys are backup QBs which we need anyway. They are young enough to possibly have some potential still. You are finding some elite QB in FA for cheap.
