Theres a line of thinking that long interceptions aren’t actually that bad anymore in the modern nfl.

he also threw 33 touchdowns that year.

If you look at the way the modern NFL has trended, it's dramatically away from TO prone gunslingers. There are also gunslingers in this era that are substantially less TO prone(Mahomes, Mayfield, etc).

Favre was in the old era. I have said that about Winston his entire career. He is just Brett Favre. Had he been a starter in that era, he would have been a beloved QB.

Alas, different era.

Certainly but the TO prone guys also tend to take the wind out of the sails of their teammates in pretty quick fashion.

Certainly wouldn't argue they will get many more chances, especially since we would be pretty far behind in most of our matchups. Not gonna argue against Winston's ability either.

I don’t think the growth of these guys is likely getting as stunted as you assume. As stated above, the morale issue is likely going to weigh heavier on them than you think.

These guys aren't getting passes beyond 15 yards that are at a true NFL level quality of a throw, that's really not even debatable, it's just a fact with what Bryce is able (or not able) to do.

If you don't think that is stunting their growth, then I don't know what else to say, because it 100% is.

Even more so with someone like XL since he was so raw when we got him anyways.  Wasting 2 years of his development getting thrown balls that don't cut it at this level is without question stunting his growth.

You also forget that WRs tend to be the type that get happier when they're getting thrown the ball more, especially downfield.  So yes, while they might get frustrated by Jameis' turnovers, the increase in downfield passing will more than offset that to keep them happy.

I don't think there's much wind left in anyone's sails at this point.  If you don't get to play in a functional grown up passing offense, it's probably going to suck to play receiver.

I don't think morale is going to be as big of an issue if guys are catching shots downfield and scoring.  Even if we lose because our journeyman QB is terrible about throwing picks downfield.

Yeah, look at how frustrated AJ Brown was in Philly not getting the ball and they're 5-2 and have been one of the best teams in the league in recent years. Even if you're winning at some point if you feel like you're not being put in position to be your best individually then frustration is gonna start to show.

I don't think it's a stunting because if they have the abilities, they aren't magically going to lose them due to lack of game opportunities. Were that the case, backup players would be utterly useless as they just sit and watch.

XL's lack of development is solely of his own doing.

I don't doubt that any WR is going to be happier with more opportunities but I also don't think Winston(or anyone else, for that matter) is suddenly going to transform our entire offense into 40-50 passes a game. I will say it's possible and given the player you are talking about that certainly might have to be an option more often than not but that doesn't really seem to fit Canales style in general.

I don't think it's about passing 40-50 times a game.  I think it's about the times we do pass, we are threatening the whole field.

DO NOT TRADE DRAFT CAPITAL FOR ANOTHER LAME DUCK QB.

we need a franchise QB, not another average at best QB. Wait till the off—season and figure out the QB season. We just wanted an answer on Bryce this season and so far we’ve gotten that.

I agree with this and said as much in the "QB trade" thread last night.  However, I think Jameis is the one exception to this rule, especially if we can get him for a 5th or later pick TWO drafts from now.

To me, that cost is MORE than worth the return we'll get in the form of expediting the growth of our pass catchers.

But literally any other available backup QB in the league and anything other than a pick TWO drafts from now, and I probably then balk at a trade like that.

I don't think morale appears to be bad, do you? If that were the case, how have we won four games?

Yeah, that's a little different scenario. He was also pissed last year too about not getting enough targets.

    • Here’s a summary of the JJ and Luke podcast transcript. Opening / Bryce Young Fifth-Year Option     •    JJ: Breaking news — Panthers picked up Bryce Young’s fifth-year option at $25.9M, guaranteed, coming in 2027. Combined with his 2025 salary of ~$6M, that’s $31M over two years — called it a “no-brainer.”     •    Luke: Enthusiastic about the move. Highlighted Bryce’s improving TD/INT ratios (11/10 → 15/9 → 23/11) and the value of entering year three with Dave Canales. Noted $25M is a bargain relative to the $60M top of market. Luke’s Personal Update — Charlotte Christian Football     •    Luke: Working with Charlotte Christian school football program, which hired a new head coach. Coaches include Greg Olsen, Luke, and Greg’s dad Chris Olsen (a New Jersey State coaching Hall of Famer).     •    JJ: Jokingly quipped that Charlotte Christian’s coaching staff is “the world’s greatest” — a Fox analyst, a Hall of Famer, and the best Panthers RB ever — all coaching middle school football.     •    Luke: Praised Chris Olsen’s deep football knowledge spanning decades and his ability to connect with kids. Round 1, Pick 19 — Monroe Freeling, OT, Georgia     •    JJ: Panthers were on the clock and submitted their pick almost immediately — a sign of confidence and preparation. Freeling is 6’7”, 320 lbs, played in the SEC in a pro-style system.     •    Luke: Loved the pick. Emphasized you can never have too many quality offensive linemen. Noted Freeling’s size, athleticism, and arm length as key traits. Said the pick also reflects team’s philosophy of drafting great people, not just great players.     •    JJ: Noted reporter Darren Gantt compared Freeling favorably to Jordan Gross — bigger, heavier, and faster — as a potential franchise left tackle.     •    Luke: Pointed out that young players like Freeling still have physical development ahead of them, comparing the trajectory to Christian McCaffrey’s growth from age 20 onward. Round 2, Pick 49 — Lee Hunter, DT, Texas Tech     •    JJ: Panthers traded up from 51 to 49 (pick swap with Minnesota) to grab Hunter. Played audio from Panthers area scout Kaden McLuhan, who scouted Hunter.     •    Scout Kaden McLuhan (audio): Said Hunter’s size is immediately striking, and that everyone around him spoke glowingly about his character, energy, and love for the game.     •    Luke: Praised Hunter as a massive (6’3”, 320 lbs, ~34” arms) two-gap nose tackle who fits perfectly in the Evero defense. Compared his prospect profile to Akiem Hicks. Said having Derek Brown, Bobby Brown, Derrick Brown, Terson Wharton, and now Hunter creates varied body types that stress offensive linemen.     •    JJ: Noted Hunter ranked third among all prospects in run-stuff rate and sixth in interior pass-rush win rate — addressing a perception that he couldn’t rush the passer. Rounds 3–7 Highlights     •    Luke: Highlighted WR Brazle (3rd round, 6’4”, 437 speed, 1,000+ yards at Tennessee) as the vertical threat the offense needed. Also praised OL Sam Heck (5th round) as a technically sound player whose “short arms” caused him to fall but who has proven himself.     •    Luke: Mentioned CB Will Lee (6’1”, 33” arms) fits the Panthers’ DB prototype — big, long corners.     •    Luke: Praised S/LB hybrid Zaki Wheatley (5th round, 6’3”) as a big nickel similar to Trayvon Merek.     •    Luke: Excited about the linebacker competition between Devin Lloyd, Trevvin Wallace, and Claudin Cherless.     •    JJ: Noted Panthers had the #1 “steal/overreach” rating in the entire draft — drafting players lower than consensus big boards projected. Around the League     •    Luke: Admitted being “a little jealous” that the Miami Dolphins drafted LB Jacob Rodriguez (Luke’s favorite LB in the draft). Has personal connections to Miami’s coaching staff (Jeff Hafley, DC Shawn Dugen — a childhood teammate).     •    Luke: Also noted Miami’s selection of OT/G Kaden Proctor out of Alabama, who will likely move to guard. League Trends — Bigger Tight Ends / 12 & 13 Personnel     •    JJ: Observed the NFL saw its highest run rate in ~11 years (~52%) and a notable pivot toward big blocking tight ends in this draft.     •    Luke: Explained the cyclical nature of NFL offense/defense evolution — as defenses get smaller to match spread offenses, teams counter with bigger personnel (12/13 formations), which then forces defenses to get bigger at the nickel/“big nickel” spot. Called it an ongoing arms race.

    • Nothing about the Flyers scare me. They are a mid team that just barely made the playoffs.
