What to do about the Rico situation

yeah, let’s just let go of the best player on our entire offense by far. The player carrying us to wins. The one averaging double what our other backs are averaging.

if you can’t see the massive difference in talent between those two you need to go ahead and find a new sport

There is no good solution to the Rico situation.

Trade him and we're trading the only thing working for this offense right now.

Keep him around and watch him leave for a big contract in FA and we got nothing in return for him in what will be another non playoff season.

Keep him around and sign him to a big extension while cutting/trading Hubbard and taking the cap hit on top of the Rico contract, and we're putting even more cap resources into the RB position.

Leave it to the Panthers to find a diamond in the rough in FA and it somehow only lead to lose-lose-lose long term situations.

he's better than an injured hubbard? okay 

it's foolish to invest more money into the RB position with the other holes on this team

or you could tag him for 15 million in 2026 but that's not a good option either and he will probably hold out

Wonder what we could get Chubba for in the offseason if let him finish out the season.  Class act and the locker room loves him but Rico is clearly better

If we're keeping Rico, it means giving him a sizable contract while also taking a cap hit on moving Hubbard.

If we do that, our back up RBs next year are Brooks and Etienne, you can't sink more cap room into the position after that.

let me put this another way

next season the panthers are going to have to extend ikey, get an entire linebacking corps (only one under contract is tevin wallace), pay chuba his 7.5 million they can't get out of, and address the qb position. 

rico is going to want more than Chuba got. where is that money going to come from? 

and you just extended a RB to have him turn into a pumpkin. But this time it'll be different because...

Rico is the focal point of an offense that scored 13 points before the final play of the 4th quarter. who cares.

We just went in and beat a 5-1 team at home and the offense was fueled by the running game. 

Tepper and some of the fans have been waiting for their "Ptarick Mahomes" to walk through the door for a few seasons now at the behest of other positions on the team how has that worked out so far?

We have a guy playing at an elite level and has ilus playing meaningful football in November since forever it seems. 

And you guys want to act as if that's not a player we need, just wait until we get our Qb just wait....

a banged up RB due 26 million over the next 3 seasons? nothing 

otoh he only costs 4.5 mil against the cap if he's designed a june 6 cut.

if the offense can only muster 16 points I don't care about who fuels it

no one is talking about patrick mahomes. but it's a fact you're either going to have to extend bryce, draft a qb, or bring in a FA. you need a QB

He better than pre-injury Hubbard by far. 

Better than post-injury Hubbard by a landslide.

Who knows if he would have gotten the keys to the car from the start where those numbers would be.

RBs come and go. QB is more important and that will elevate the entire offense.

DO NOT PAY RBs BIG MONEY!

As much as I love Rico (he's a straight DAWG!), we would be making the same mistake we have made throughout our history paying a RB big money. It hardly (if ever) works out. Either do what you did with Dowdle and get a RB looking to bounce back on a one year contract (Dowdle, Javonte Williams, Aaron Jones, etc.), or draft one in the 4th round or later. RBs is the easiest position to fill.
