Another example of Bryce playing chess that casuals wouldn’t notice or appreciate

Then you're not reading. I've said repeatedly that I'd sign a decent FA vet and I'd keep my options open in the draft. What we can't do is just keep pretending that Bryce is a franchise QB. If Bryce had been a third round pick he would've gotten 3-4 starts and buried on the bench and might honestly be out of the league at this point. His draft status and the investment we made has carried him far enough. Now Rico is trying his ass off to keep carrying him but we have to evaluate the QB position like you evaluate any other position - on the merit of the individual play outside of the team's success or failure.

I've read your other posts. That's not 100%.  You're gambling that some FA is going to be our savior.  We struck lightning once with Jake relieving Rodney Peete.  Who's the next Jake?  You don't know and neither do I.  You're speculating.

I want exactly who is going to be your savior.

You probably can't pick one because every FA has flaws, which is why they aren't starting in this league.

There is no 100%. But continuing to pretend that Bryce is a franchise QB is 0%.

I'm not gambling on a franchise savior. That's what we did when we traded up for Bryce. I'm simply saying to try to improve the most important position on the roster with a relatively low cost veteran and then go into the draft with QB fully on the board too. I'd like to see us emulate the Giants' approach this past off-season. They signed both Jameis and Russell Wilson, then drafted Jaxson Dart in the late first. Russell looked completely washed, Jameis is probably still Jameis, but Dart has showed a ton of promise. They gave themselves multiple chances and they're certainly thrilled that the one that is panning out is the one on a rookie contract with the longest future ahead of him.

Look I am not saying Bryce is the answer. I think he's better than you portrait but, I get your point.  Remember Dart was a late first round pick.  A great pick up if you ask me. We're probably not going to reach for a 1st round pick.  That means a 2nd round or further down the draft for a QB that may or maynot be the answer.

Sad thing is though we traded up for Young, he's probably the best QB of that draft. Stroud has regressed greatly, if you ask me.

I don't know the answer and I am not sure we waste picks on a MAYBE.

Everything is a maybe. There are no sure things in the draft. Hell, there aren't even sure things in free agency. But we can't just keep pretending Bryce is a franchise QB.

I’d rather the team burn a draft pick than go on being the make a wish experience for Bryce

I'm not all in on drafting a QB with our first, but I'm not against it if there's one our scouts like that is legitimately at the top of our board where we pick. I just don't want to reach.

I think he will have a great game vs the Saints this week.

I sure hope so. Everything seems to be pointing to the table being set for it.

Really, as I've said before, Bryce is in the position to make his statement about what his future will be.

I'm definitely not all in on QB in the 1st. I'm just all in on keeping our options open. Give me a decent veteran journeyman in FA and then keep our options open in the draft.

Bryce is not better than Stroud. While Tepper has made Fitterer and Morgan invest endless resources in the offense to protect his billionaire pride Houston has made countless dumb decisions to hurt their QB’s development.

Stroud has won 2 division championships. His top 2 receivers have missed significant time. Houston traded away their pro bowl left tackle after last season. Who does that to a 3rd year QB?  As I type this Stroud is in the concussion protocol for the 2nd time due to their GM’s inept decision making

Now Panther fans take snap shots of statistics and try to say Bryce is better in the last 14 to 16 games. If you watch them play it’s clear which QB will be starting in the NFL for the foreseeable future.

This is where I am... No matter what I want a decent backup / veteran option

I get the idea. I'm just not sure how that plays out in a real world negotiation when agents and egos get involved.

Okay. I guess I would ask, if he goes elsewhere would he have to compete or would he just be handed the job?
I am thinking with what he has shown, doubtful that it is handed to him. He and his agent may have to contend with that as a reality when they weigh their options.

I don’t think he is that hard to replace from a performance aspect. If the teammates really do support him, all in, that would be my biggest consideration before going hardball. But you can’t pay this guy 18 million for two years, as things stand today, without at least considering other cheaper options.
