How many Qbs can you name better than Bryce Young?

Oh, I get it. I called him Peewee for the first couple of years. He is too small to be an NFL QB. It wasn't as much of a problem in college, even in the SEC, because every player in the NFL is the size and speed of the biggest 22 on your entire college team. 

I was left scratching my head over the pick and what we traded to get him (and yes, that cost analysis is unavoidable). Now we're sunk into the third season and the kid just popped a frikkin' amazing game out there where he showed every mark of what you need in a top end QB. Great passing, mobility, guts, toughness (that ankle must have been killing him) and the ability to put a team on his back to claw back a win. He didn't win it with his arm so much as by getting the ball to the right people at the right time, but that is what the best do.

Do I believe he's going to be our QB of the future here? I'm still out on that. Way out on that. But I'm at least intrigued. Can he replicate what he did or even get close? Can he perform well against the power opponents we have left on the schedule? Heck, can he even beat New Orleans this season? 

Right now, my personal feeling is that he'd make a heck of a back-up QB. He could prove me wrong and excel, though. Maddening as it is, that'd be the best outcome ever. Or he could have just hit his peak. And that would be bittersweet because then we start the whole thing over again. I don't see a reclaimation project QB out there right now that Canales can work his magic on.

Yeah I feel you. I like watching things work and come together. Where we are now is that every time he does something to get people excited the same people come in to crown him but then it goes right back to the same old. 
 

It is a compelling watch at least. The rest of the team is growing. This year’s draft class is looking like it could be pretty historic, speaking top to bottom.

With the QB it is well we have 6 games left. Last week was great but that doesn’t make up for all the crap in the past even the previous week. He is gonna need to keep that up. And we saw even in that excellent performance, he doesn’t see open people very well. He has to have things a certain way or he can’t function like that. And that was a crappy defensive team despite whatever the statistical rankings were trying to claim. Lots of ball left to be played before we have to call it.

Which for sure wasn’t my old miserable ass. I gave up on ‘while we’re young’ and moved to ‘while I am alive’.
71 in two days and lived like I wouldn’t make 60 from teenager on.  I didn’t want to live to be old. So that wick is burned down pretty far. 
I need that little frog to turn into a prince, now. Or I need a new frog.

Realistically, I believe he is here for the foreseeable future.

Personally, I think we can do better. 

The nice feature to this season is how this stretch run is shaping up. If Young can run this gauntlet of playoff teams, and win the Panthers into the playoffs after nearly a decade of trash football, then he deserves all the accolades and acclaim. It's a trial by fire moment.

      I guess so. Don't think I was involved with previous discussions.  Tepper is one of the newest owners in the NFL. Dan is going into his 3rd season as a GM - ever. Dave is going into his 3rd season as a HC - ever. Before becoming a HC, he was an OC/playcaller for one season total. Idzik is about to go into his 1st year as a play caller - ever. WRs are rookies, sophomores and 3rd year guys - though the experienced 3rd year guys are XL and Coker (who has missed a ton of games). TEs are guys going into their 2nd and 3rd seasons, and Tommy Tremble - though Sanders has missed a ton of games. QB has played 3 years. Chuba is an experienced RB, but Brooks and Etienne have taken very little snaps at the position. O-line is more experienced vets with some talent - which is HUGE. Need them to stay healthy. I mean the offense is very young in every aspect except O-line. You see it differently?

      I said this ALL last season and will say it again this year. Our record means diddly squat this year, I don't care if we have 0 wins or 17 wins, I only care about one thing and one thing only. Bryce proves without a shadow of a doubt that he IS or ISN'T our long term solution at QB. It's the only thing that matters for the same reason it sucks that this is the same thing as last year.  This needs to be determined, and if they can't determine it, then it's still telling the team the answer, just not the one they want to hear. As right now we're in the ultimate QB purgatory, a position that dooms franchises for years.  Just look at a team like the Cardinals, who extended a better QB and it still screwed them over and haven't had a contending team in a long time. People get too caught up on wins and losses when evaluating players, particularly QBs.  When people look at the final record and use that as a reason to want to extend a QB or not is just a fools errand.  If we had lost 2-3 more games last year because we didn't make a last second FG, I genuinely wonder if we would have just moved on from Bryce this offseason (like we should have been doing anyways IMHO).
