Canales is holding us back

Only touching the O in year 1 is understandable but if the DC has to be begged to do something beyond that then that says a LOT about your HC skills and ability IMO.

It was probably a concession made that Canales has no influence over.
If I were in his place I’d have agreed to whatever, to get my foot in the door. And as a fist time HC saddled with fixing or getting production out of Bryce Young, that is a double full time job to start with.

He gets the team in the playoffs (I don’t see that happening) and he will get his leash extended. Little more power, a bigger voice. I didn’t expect poo this season so didn’t care about these little dramas, personally.

The lack of misdirection in the playbook isn't helping Bryce. If the run game is contained he has to pinpoint dink and dunk us to victory and basically can't turnover. Canales atleast humors the idea of this system and that's why he's doing better than Reich but it's the same issue. You can mitigate this with more play action, bootlegs, letting Bryce move around in the backfield but they're just not doing anything creative with him to try open up the limited area of the field he can work in.

I like the routes on our passing downs, that's about it.

Arguably the biggest defense Bryce-stans have. DC is doing him no favors calling the same 4ish concept type of pass plays - playaction dumpoff to TE, X receiver comeback route, empty backfield 5 yard curls for all receivers, and slot deep in.

Bryce is already a liability. The same stale pass plays most weeks doesn't help also. When we deviate from those stale plays, we get Rams type of games where the Rams sell out on short passes and we beat them deep.

I just want a 4 game stretch where we call like 5-10 deep passes a game and see how Bryce does. If he stinks it up, then DC has his evidence of why Bryce isn't the answer. We literally aren't even giving Bryce a chance with these play calls, and this is coming from a guy that wanted CJ with our pick badly

Year 1? Make sense for a first time HC. But not being the other coaches boss as a HC and being completely hands off is some cuckold vibes. Worked grest for Reich too. They don't need to be experts on the other side but they need to bring the units together.

Having to make it to the playoffs just to force the DC to do the most basic things is a joke. They wouldn't have to ask if it wasn't necessary right? Just seems set up to fail if he still isn't a full HC and has such giant training wheels on.

Know what would probably help him improve as a HC and hopefully the team too? Getting someone else to call plays. He just looks like an OC doing the PR for the coaches in this setup.

i think he is running what bryce is most comfortable with, hence the roll outs. i dont think you can call that many deep shots with Bryce. he throws a moonball, not a rope . his deep ball allows dbs to catch up if they are not wide open. they are also to the outside, not posts or deep digs.

Well, looking at it now I would agree that he should cede some of his power and focus on being a leader of an entire NFL program and becoming a better strategist. And leave the details of implementing that to the people he has hired to work under him.
But I am just some guy that gets his info 3rd hand and works off of incomplete info, using assumptions to draw conclusions.

so the current Carolina Panthers are a team that is in a similar situation that the 2022 Carolina Panthers were in about this same time exactly 3 years ago.

& after the 2022 season & missing the playoffs because of a last game of the season loss to the Tom Brady led Bucs  Carolina Panthers brass then thought hey you know what we are just a Qb away from taking that next step & becoming a playoff contender in 2023 .so of course that's what the Panthers proceeded to do when they traded up to the #1 overall pick in order todraft Bryce Young .& here is history repeating itself as it often does & the Carolina Panthers are once again in a close race at the end of the season with Tampa Bay for the NFCS title in 2025

it's took what 3 years now to get back to where we started to begin with prior to drafting Bryce Young

&so tell me once again who is really holding this team back ?

...just saying hRi

Totally agree, outside of blowing the entire leadership team up on top of drafting Bryce, then firing them all halfway into the season. All that drama just to end up right back where we started 🙂

It's a concession he made to get the Tepper retirement package. 1 year minimum with Bryce to never have to work again. Sign me up too.
