While this is shocking news, anyone who thinks he'll take a DC position,  is lying to themselves.

100%.  If he chooses to coach next year, he will have a contract lined up with a team.  IMO I think he'll take a year away before coming back.  Hes not gonna go to a place thats in shambles (Cleveland or Miami), I doubt he takes something like Tennessee because its far more disfunctional than people say (They fuging fired Mike Vrabel after trading away AJ Brown and Derrick Henry then wonder why they suck).  IMO, IFFF mcdermott takes a position itd be baltimore or surprisingly Las Vegas (gets to hand pick his #1 overall QB and a bajillion dollars in cap room to fix the roster)...maaayyybe Pittsburgh because I think the structure and organization would fit him.

Yeah the guy that actually has this team trending upward . Yall love everyone else trash except ya own lol

I think a lot of folks remember him very fondly from his time here as DC during that 15-1 season and the Super Bowl appearance.

Not trying to knock Canales, he's showing some promise, but he's still a young and unproven coach when compared. We aren't making any kind of trade, but...

That overall roster has been trending downward for awhile now.

I don't get while some of y'all are saying this. Every roster goes through its ebb and flows. The Bills, at least in my mind, were a receiver away this season. Now why Beane/McDermott never felt the need to move up and get a receiver in the draft, I don't know, but you can't do everything. They're overall defense has been ranked fairly highly for the last five years, and their offense has been top five for that same period.

Beane has been a good GM, arguably just as good as McDermott has been as coach. They've certainly had Championship contending rosters. It sucks, but the HC is generally the fall guy in those types of situations.

Ruthless.

In some ways I can see the criticism of McDermott. The Bills have choked in the playoffs a lot. But I don't see them upgrading from him. In all likelihood they will downgrade.

It depends on who they hire. It wouldn't be the first time another HC has come in and gotten a team over the hump. But, yeah, most owners are only going to wait so long to make a change they're getting similar results year after year with championship-caliber rosters, especially if they perceive the pressure of a closing window.

he couldn’t win it with Josh Allen . WTH he gonna do with Bryce lol . Yes i love Mcd but as a Defensive coordinator but he’s not coming here for that job .  he deserves another shot at HC.

Points allowed ranking over the past 4 years: 2nd, 4th, 11th, 12th

Over the past two seasons, they've basically slid to an upper middle of the pack defense while their offense has trended more and more toward the "save me Superman QB" stuff we did with Cam. Their overall roster has absolutely been trending downward.

    • We’re in a pickle. My best hope is we protect him and can run the ball vs most Ds and the WRs are healthy so he has every chance to not look like what he looked like in too many games last year.
    • I'm really not stressing about upgrading from Bryce. I'm frustrated with our inability (or refusal) to recognize overall bad QB performance and failure to seriously address the issue. QB is the most impactful position on the field, and we're not only settling for what we've been given to this point, but we've rewarded it with a fully guaranteed 5th year extension for a player that's never played 2 NFL franchise QB quality games back to back in 3 seasons. I can't understand how that's ok from a coach's or GM's viewpoint. Successful franchises don't do things like this. It just doesn't make sense.  We do not have a top half of the league QB right now. Since we don't have that player, we should be looking for him. Pickett isn't it. Grier isn't it. Bryce hasn't proven he is yet. Until you have that sure fire franchise QB, you keep looking. You're not consistently making the playoffs, a deep run, or a SB appearance without one.  What's the worst that could happen? We end up with 2 potential number 1 QBs? How horrible.
    • Easy to understand Pickett, if this is anywhere close to on point. Canales wants to get as close to Bryce as he can- get the pace and timing in the throws as close a he can to Bryce. So the other players don’t have to adjust so much, to a new guy.       If Cam was the 1, he would look for a rocket arm.  But Bryce is the 1. Look for limited in the same way.  Low velocity, plenty of air under it, feels just like home when Picket comes in. And you have the guys on the second team not having such a radical adjustment (if they have to play) like with Dalton to Bryce.    Enter Grier. I guess we will collect those types.
