Not sure there is anything that will do that outside of Young actually being a legit top 12 QB. Where he won’t need excuses made for him.

It is just as likely to multiply them.

Only thing I really see it doing is possibly making Tepper listen if a different play caller can't run the offense because of limitations. New hire, someone who hasn't been watching Bryce for the past 3 years up close may be able to talk some sense if he sees that he isn't able to get the job done.

Really good point

agree with this. obviously this is the make or break year for Bryce. I can't see us forking over a giant extension if he doesn't take major strides next year in terms of consistent play

We all thought that last year. We got no clear resolution.

Seems like it has distilled into: is the play calling holding him back, or is he holding back the play calling?

It will be interesting to see if things change enough to see the answer. I know what I think.

Personally, I’d rather Bevell be calling the plays. Idzik being so green is too easy of an excuse if Young doesn’t take off.

WTH I thought ol Tepp wanted a HC/OC so when our OFF grows and becomes super great other teams can't get our play caller....

Well, he should have thought about that before he traded the future to draft a midget QB, and fired Reich because he couldn’t turn water into wine.

No one wanted the job. He had to take a green entry level OC, and like it.

Of course. I mean, thinking the playcalls or available plays are dictated in large part by the limitations of the QB is just plain ignorant!  It has to be on the play caller’s lack of imagination.

We have a QB that is standing on his tip toes trying to see the field, that couldn’t possibly be affecting anything, right?

Anyhow I do agree that Canales was trying to do too much too fast, and was overwhelmed at times because of that.

I will hope that we get a more diverse offense in the third year HC and QB are together, the same old passing charts we have seen most Mondays have to get more spread out.
Maybe Bevell can help with that.

This is my take. Everyone dumps on Canales' playcalling, but when you watch the All22 you see players running wide open and there are plays that the QB isn't or can't make. People can't be that obtuse to think that we are running crowded route trees within twenty five yards because Canales has no imagination. Right? Idzik has looked less than mediocre in preseason action at the helm, but he hasn't had anything to work with at QB outside a few drives with Bryce. Dalton is cooked and Jack whatever his name was didn't give us anything worth a d*mn. Bevell was a good addition and fingers crossed this is successful.

You maybe on to something. The recent hire of Darrell bevell may have suggested it after his viewing of the season. I do think brad should have a understanding of BY and what to call. I also think huddle, x, plebitt, bragbook panther fans started to ask loudly "What does Brad do?!?!?". I also think Dave is trying to save himself if BY fails....

Yeah and just to respond to this, there is a huge difference between being less imaginative than the best generational type of offensive minds and being incapable. And even the best don’t run the table every year.

I don’t think you get even an OC job if you don't understand stuff like you cite here.

Having to do it all on the fly with people in your ear and the clock ticking and trying to be concerned about all these things going on in a football game will test a lot of people and mistakes will be made. If he gets out from under all that maybe the things outside of the play calling will improve.

Not a fan of this, whether its the "right" move. The main reason people mention to hire an offensive coach is so you don't have your playcaller under constant turnover like what happens in many cases. If we were going to do this, we should just hire a higher caliber defensive coach, since I feel like you can get a much better defensive coach prospect as the demand is much lower.

I think that is referring to having a different offensive coordinator and scheme.  It's still the same scheme and game planning that Idzik was already involved in.  This is just play calling duties.

I don’t have those concerns here.

But first, I never understood a lot about why the TO and the challenges were so hard. Wouldn’t you have a guy looking at the challenge option on a video, wired into the coach’s earpiece? All he has to do is say, hold up we can challenge that and win.

Same for clock management. Have an assistent dedicated to to keeping the HC straight in that.

But what do I know. In the real world it is happening this way.

To your concerns, I would say I don’t feel too threatened that Idzik gets stolen for a head coach job any time soon. He would need to cook for two to three years straight before he would get that kind of credibility.

If for some reason he did get hired away, Bevell is here and is probably better at it than Idzik.

I favor defensive guys because they generally have tougher teams, less finesse more ass kicking mentality. In my perception anyway.
